I'm completely new to this scene and frankly I want to be as discreet as possible. One problem I keep running into is getting through the screening process. I provided the agency my real name, email, age, ethnicity, job and employer contact (I'm a graduate student); however, I still have not received a call. Can someone explain to me how this screening process works or what I can do to build more credibility and pass the screening process

Being young and not yet employed is a drawback in getting started, and that's probably why the agency hasn't gotten back to you.

I have a few suggestions:

First, would be to read the Newbie/Self-help Manual that is linked on this page.  Look for the red and white life preserver.  It is full of useful information about the hobby and how to use TER in general.

Second, I would suggest joining a screening service like P411 or Datecheck.  Do a search using the search feature TER has for this page, and you'll find lots of information on this subject.

Lastly, become a VIP member of TER and use that to research providers.  Some are newbie friendly and if you approach them correctly, will take a chance on you.  The secret is to come across mature and respectful, which, by the way, your post here indicates to me that you are.

After you have done this, feel free to come back and ask more questions.  That's what this board is for

I'd like to point out that P411 allows providers to indicate on their profile if they are 'newbie friendly', another good reason to join that site.  Gina, the owner, and her staff, will work with you to get you verified.  

I would also suggest that you get active on your regional board, so providers will get to know your personality and that you are a real potential client.  Since you are in grad school, you are probably in your early 20's and many providers will not see guys under a certain age.  Not sure about agencies.

The VIP membership on here is critical since without it you cannot see the entire profile of providers which you need to see to know what they offer and how they operate and what their rates are.
