dates of posts in red

As I look down the board, I see some posts that
have the dates they were submitted in red.

Does anyone know of the significance?

If anyone knows why the dates turn red they are keeping it a well guarded secret. This question is often asked here. I asked it myself when I was a newbie. Frankly I'm still trying to figure it out. Some theories have been put forth but, so far none knows.

but I have absofuckinlutely no idea.

There have been discussions on this for as long as I've been here and no one has ever explained it.  All I know is that after a post has been up for a while the time code goes red.  I just don't  care any more.

the Holy Grail or the Meaning of Life. We will never find the answer!  :)

The date of a post seem to turn red after about a day or so.

This feature seems to serve to distinguish newer and older posts on the same thread (especially on the general board where members are submitting newer comments on threads that originated several days prior). That way you can quickly check to see if anyone commented on a comment on someone else's comment on another comment... you just look for the black dates amidst the red!

As I look down the Board there are black dates that are older than
some red ones.  Down on the Board under the thread of
"Larger Donations" by BigNation, You have a red date that is
the same date as others that are black.  Under the
"Predictions for the Direction of TER" by USUFan I have a post
that is older than others in red.   Sorry, but it was doesn't seem so.

But I did notice that I had a post in red and I open it
and tried to see if I could still edit it, and the response
was "you are not allowed to modify this message".
Then the next day the date was no longer in Red!

So if anyone else can be a forum investigator and find more
clues that would be helpful...

Ah yes... the newer ones are bold black and older ones unbold black

The red ones seem to be in the middle like they are in a time "queue" of some sort...

Most of your posts make me chuckle. some have me LOL. I especially liked the ones on the gd board on that train wreck thread (running out of room, cant breathe, help!)
Hope you stick around :)

Posting on discussion boards on TER makes me lose money! lol

I need a timer when I'm posting that reminds me to check my email and Google Voice account periodically.

But it is a lot of fun! Glad you enjoy my very sarcastic sense of humor!

It's a CIA tracking system. LOL. Actually I have no clue either. It is one of those mysteries of the universe. No one including the moderators knows. If admin knows, they aren't saying. Sexyangelique69'S theory has been suggested before, but proven wrong (as you just did). Many other theories have been proposed but proven wrong. Everytime somebody thinks they figured it out, when you really look at it, whatever they figured out turns out to not be consistant. Maybe some day someone will figure it out, but for now it is a mystery of the board:)

OK sexyangelique69 is right about the
black dates in bold being new and older
dates in thin black numbers.

But as far as red goes it must be an old
software tool that is no longer available...

My original post in this thread was red, and
I clicked on it and viewed it in a flat listing
rather than the "tree" style.   And there is
a "edit  message" link, I clicked on it and
it wouldn't let me edit my message.  But when
I went back to the board I refreshed my
screen and the red date of my original
turned to black again.

"Hey, want to try and edit your post now?"

"NOT"

I clicked on a red on of mine and did not see the "edit post" option in the tree or flat view... is editing your posts a full VIP feature?

Have the tabs "quote" and "reply" when I view
them in Tree style...

But when I view the thread in Flat style
the tabs are "quote" and "edit message"

I'm a vip but when I try to edit, it will display
the message "you are not allowed to modify this message"

so I think the red letters are an old signal that you can't edit anymore...? Maybe?
