NO! Ages are NOT automatically updated...

Occasionally I will see a profile for a provider whose age is listed as 21-25.  But her first review was ten years ago which means she would have been 11-15 at the time of her first review.  Of course she wasn't - her profile hasn't been updated in ten years.  In these FOSTA/SESTA days, you'd think TER would be watching for profiles which make it seem as though the providers were minors when they started.  The truth is they don't; TER relies on members to file Problem Reports to keep the profiles accurate.

Say someone reviews a provider in 2010 and says she is 30-35. Will the same review now show age of 40-45 today?

To get to that age, generally you have to add the number of years since that review came out to the age given back then.

Occasionally, someone will file a problem report and get the age updated, but that is rare.

Fish, are you saying TER automatically updates the age range in the profile? I did not think that happened.

Or are you saying whoever is looking at the reviews should take the date of the original review into account when considering the age?

I took the OP to mean he was looking at the age that a reviewer gave in his review 10 years ago.  If that’s the case, then of course the review will still say the same age today.

The age in the provider’s profile is independent from whatever is said in a review. And we have no way to know what the profile said about the provider’s age when the review was written 10 years ago.  The age in the profile might have been updated since the old review was posted. Or maybe it hasn’t been updated.  But we don’t know if the age in the profile is accurate now, or was accurate 10 years ago.

It’s best I think to rely on details in recent reviews regarding age (or apparent age) than what’s in a TER profile. If the provider is on P411, some profiles there have an “actual age” that’s been verified by P411.  And my understanding is that if a P411 profile gives an age and doesn’t say “actual age”, the given age must be within five years (either way) of actual age.  I’ve confirmed that’s the case with those providers on P411 for whom I know their actual age—“actual age” is accurate, and age without “actual age” is within 5 years. And the ages in P411 are updated automatically.

The confusion about just how to interpret things like age in the profile is why I suggested the profile itself be given a date for when the information can be considered "current" as of that date.
