can we change alias? if so, how often can we change it, and how many times?

Once upon a time we had unlimited aliases. Now you can have only one at a time and you have to keep it for 3 months before you can change it. To change it (after the 3 month period) just use the contact us button and tell them you want to change your alias. They will delete your current one, then you are allowed to choose a new one.  

There is no limit on how many times you can change it as far as I know. I assume you can get a new one every 3 months forever (or until they change policy).

The reason was almost always for some humorous or ironic effect.

It's too bad people can't do that now.  There were a few great guffaws back then
