Hello, I'm a new provider in the RDU area. I've had a few clients but none are a member of TER to leave reviews. I want to tour this week but my question is, how do hobbyists feel about seeing a new provider in this industry. I mean we all have to start from somewhere.
You should still suggest that your visitors who are not members of TER sign up. It's FREE! If they do so and submit a review, that's a bonus. . And your concern is a valid one. Many here on TER are averse to seeing someone w/o reviews. Some are more adventurous but still go with their intuition and other forms of research. (Where do you advertise? Are you on twitter, FB or other social media (SM)?) Some are much more willing to TOFTT (take one [a chance] for the team). . Touring can be tricky, even for experienced touring Providers. Follow the local boards of the places you are considering and get a read from there. You can even post to those boards but watch out for people accusing you of posting a "threAD" - an AD disguised as a thread. If local (Providers / Clients) are posting that things are slow, that's a warning to you: Providers complaining = business is bad; Clients complaining = consider a trip. What is happening in that area? (E.g., it's in 6 weeks, not this week, but Super Bowl Sunday is Feb 4 in Minneapolis; lots of celebrants but probably ZERO hotel rooms. ) . Other touring basics: Search the board for other threads on the topic. What is your goal? Make a lot of money; break even; subsidize your love of travel and to visit new cities, even if you spend more than you make? Some Providers know their cities and will cancel a trip if they don't have enough pre-booked appointments. The numbers seem to vary by city AND provider. ("I love the guys in XXX. They never cancel." "I hate XXX. I average a 30% cancellation rate so I won't make the trip unless I have at least X appointments pre-scheduled." . And more things to think about to improve the chances of a successful trip.

I would say a good move is to post in the Carolina boards and introduce yourself, as there are TER members that are more willing to take chance on reviewing a new provider if they post on either on the general carolina board or the carolina ad board.
Thank you for your response. The problem with this is that I do not have a website at the moment so I have only been advertising on twitter and BP. I've tried to post an ad on the Carolinas board even listing my twitter account but it was denied because my link did not have the TER banner nor emblem. What steps do you recommend that I take at this point? Thanks for your time!
An ad from an ad mall (Backpage, Slixa, Eros, etc.) is OK even tho it doesn't always have the TER logo. Websites that you control (personal website) do need to have the TER logo. Take out an inexpensive ad someplace and use that for your TER Ad Board ad. Ask on your local board which ad mall sites are most productive (to generate business) in your area. . Do you have friends in the biz? With websites? Can they add you to their "Friends" section? That would imply some pics and contact info. Maybe your friend would be willing to be the contact for you, for a little while.
