I have a couple of questions regarding cancellation protocol within the hobby. Here's the scenario: I've seen a particular provider a couple of times and always had a great time with her. This month I booked another appointment, but 2.5 hours before our meet time, she sends me a text canceling the visit due to her feeling sick. Of course I'm disappointed but I completely understand and wish her a speedy recovery. Should I now wait for her to reach out to me to reschedule, since she canceled the visit? Or is it my responsibility to check back with her periodically on how she's feeling and, once she feels up to it, ask to reschedule? I've read other posts on this board where the canceling provider offers to "make up for it" or outright asks the client to reschedule. Is that the expectation, or more of a courtesy that only some providers offer? Thanks for the insights.
What I would do, if I were interested in rescheduling in the near future, is text her (assumes that's her preferred channel--she texted you) and say something like, "Hope you're feeling better. Please let me know when you're up to seeing clients again so we can reschedule. Thanks!" Then it's up to her. If you don't want to reschedule real soon, wait a few days, then contact her, ask how she's feeling and if she'd like to reschedule on a date you suggest.
As for "making up", some providers might do that for a same-day cancellation due to illness, but IMO you shouldn't expect it. If she was sick, she had no control over it. And if she wasn't sick... well, that's a whole 'nuther story. I had a provider offer a free session for an NCNS, but never had one offer "make up" for postponing due to illness.
