Room Service 2000 (RS2K) which is primarily Chicago-focused, Preferred 411 which is national but more expensive. They charge a fee, ask certain questions and then make a (discrete) call or two to verify who you are. You get an ID, contact a lady who is listed on their site or says she takes their verification, and the odds are you are golden.
I prefer P411, though I am listed on both. P411 also allows you to accumulate "provider okays," basically online references, as you go. Some ladies will only see you if you have a certain number of okays - there will be a +number in their listing.
If you have no references and no screening service, there are a lot of options. There are providers who do minimal screening, even established ones. That would be very hit and miss, and I would not advise going searching for that, but some will just want to have a conversation to get comfortable with you. I have some ideas what they are looking for in these conversations and I know some very established providers who make that work - great at reading people and situations I guess. Most providers will screen, wanting some information to be able to verify you are who you say you are. Basic job information, web site, phone contact. She may well call your work, so you need to decide whether you want that. But keep in mind that RS2K and P411 will do pretty much the same thing, but only once, whereas without them you have the possibility of every lady calling your work until you have references.
When you see a lady be sure to ask for a reference. You can have them here, TER calls them the whitelist, on P411 if you go that route, or just ask her if she would take reference calls for you. It is polite to also say you will give her a review, you give you get, as that can be helpful to her. Up to you whether you want to share details of your review, but using a lady for a reference if you gave her a bad review carries some risk. She might say you are a tough reviewer and some providers might take a pass on someone who they view as a risk to their reputation.
Not that hard once you get started, but I do remember that first time. RS2K made the screening painless, and Jennifer welcomed me into her world - I was amazed, delighted, dumbfounded. Just remember that is the destination, stick with well-reviewed, established ladies, and be up front that you are a newbie. One of them will take you under her wing, and then the fun begins.
One way to find that lady who will take a newbie is to make a post on your local board - something like "Newbie looking for his first provider..." Maybe put a day, location and a little about the type of lady you are looking for, though being less picky will help. Then ask them to PM you. Somebody on your local board may flame you for cluttering up their forum, but you also may get a PM or two, links to reviews, game on.
