I use this alias to post on the Legal Corner board because I do not want the ladies (and others) to know I am an attorney, unless I chose to tell them in person.
The answer to your other question: You know this is an alias because no envelope icon appears next to it and therefore you cannot send a PM to an alias.
The envelope icon merely indicates that is a member's registered name, it does not indicate that he will be able to read a PM you send by clicking on the icon. He must have VIP status to read PMs. Members registered as providers can read PMs even though they do not pay to be VIPs.
Saw in another forum on here someone said the person wouldn't get many replies since he was using an alias. Why do people do it and how can you tell they are posting with one? Sorry again for the newb question.
This has been a hard lesson for me to learn. I'm still not totally sure why it's allowed, except that it frees people to be brutally direct, and that goes with the original mission of TER which was to protect its members in what can be a dangerous activity. At first, I really didn't like aliases, because it seemed to me that that they were being misused. But eventually I have realized that 1) I am the new guy here and 2) it's part of TER culture. So it's for me to adapt to the culture, not the other way around. YMMV.

No one here uses (I hope) their given name. But ones registered name is linkd to their reviews. I use this alias personna to post on the TER message boards so I can speak openly but not brutally, about issues important to me... without someone deciding that I am discussing a lady I have reviewed. (Actually some of my Lady-friends do not have TER profiles because they do not have the neccessary internet connection.) skb (10 TER reviews)
