I assume I am posting this on the correct board...I have concerns when I receive calls from google voice #'s. I do not answer calls from blocked/private/restricted #'s, but when I answer a call and find out that it is actually a google voice # I get a lil nervous. Should I pass on the call and treat it just like a blocked call? or accept it and do my screening in the orderly fashion as I normally do? The feeling I'm getting from the person(s) that call from google voice #'s seem leary and act like they are hiding way too much and asking far too many questions than I am willing to answer.
Am I being a skeptic???
ladies and Gents please help calm my Nervies!!
Thank You Kindly,
Mona:-)

Maybe it would help to know your thoughts on these questions:

What specifically about a Google Voice (GV) number bothers you?
How would you know if a number is or is not GV?
How is GV different than a untraceable Hobby phone?

I use a GV exclusively to hobby. I've never had a provider ask me about it at all

It's much easier to just hit "delete" than to go back and forth with some time wasting, jack ass on the phone..much more discreet, too. You go to email only and they either give you the screening info. or they won't get the number...done.

Once they are VERIFIED then you can give them your number, but I would not have a phone number listed if you are having issues. Most guys who are verified will flat out tell you they use google voice or have a hobby phone, but if you are not getting references, hell yes he better have a phone you can trace back to his real name, so you can verify him.

Or burner phones. Newbies are told over and over to get a "hobby phone."  I am curious too how you know if a number is a google voice number. In any case, I agree with London. Why take calls at all? Don't publish your number in ads and websites. Make everyone contact you via email. Give out your number only after screening.

It says, "You've reached the google voice subscriber" or something like that, and you have to say your name before it rings the phone. That's what happens when people call mine, anyway.

If you want you can change your voicemail message and also whether or not it asks your caller's for their name in your settings.

Just goes to a regular standard voice mail like any other number, ("your call has been forwarded to a voice mail box. xxx-xxx-xxxx is not available. At the tone, please leave a message.") or I answer if I am expecting a call.
Must be a settings thing like pantyraider said, but I don't recall setting anything for voice mail when I signed up.

B/c I crossed referenced the # the area code and each time it comes back stating it's either GV or a scam #
I do not know the Dif for an untraceable # vs Gv# but my gut says the Gv# that has been calling me is not someone I am willing to trust.
That is why i am asking is GV trustworthy enough for me to talk without worries of who or what may be listening on the other side...
Thank You for responding and adding your input

I missed a call, Called # back and it did not go thru to any VM or messaging system. I googled # and it came up as being a GV# and had scam reports attached to it.

In addition, some phones have a city/state feature. Any call I get, in addition to the phone # showing up on my screen, also lists the city and state the number is registered to. Google Voice numbers appear as only the state..no city listed. I personally do not answer my phone ever until an appointment has been scheduled, & by that time, I already have the phone number the gent will be calling from at their scheduled confirmation time.

In any case, having a google number in and of itself is not a bad thing or does not make a bad client. So many guys are told to get a hobby phone and that is one way of doing that without actually getting a second phone. And those numbers do get recycled so your scam reports could be from someone else and not the gent contacting you. However, if I was in your shoes I would be extremely cautious and possibly just ignore future contact. As mentioned earlier your best bet is to go email only anyway. If you choose to be a phone contact lady, then I wouldn't ignore a call just because it is a google voice call but just make sure you screen well!

This quote from your OP says it all
The feeling I'm getting from the person(s) that call from google voice #'s seem leary and act like they are hiding way too much and asking far too many questions than I am willing to answer.
These kinds of calls should give you concern, no matter where the call originates, whether it is from google voice or any other source.
Good Luck and stay safe!

I know you have some special ways of knowing:) It seemd in the OP that she was finding out through the inital caller ID, since she was comparing it to blocked and private calls, and I was just wondering how that was possible. She did expand below how she found out.
