Can you gain VIP status by writing reviews. I thought I read somewhere that you could but I can't find it now.

Oh and if so, how many reviews does it take.

Newbie Manual.  Each approved review gives you 15 days of VIP.

Write two reviews per month, and you have effectively free membership.  Just be sure not to write bogus reviews...that's grounds for being banned permanently....
