Looking for help on board posting policy and etiquette

I responded to a post on a regional board yesterday and the entire thread was subsequently removed for violating board policy as a shill post/mini review.  In hindsight, I see how it could have been interpreted that way, though my reply was not intended as such.  I also noticed an unrelated post on another regional board today that could also be interpreted the same way.  I don't want to violate policy in the future or get a reputation as someone who doesn't "play by the rules".  Any suggestions on how to avoid this mistake in the future without?  And yes, I've already considered not posting anymore as one solution.

The FIRST thing to do is to become very familiar with both the 'rules' (which are linked at the top of all of the boards) and spend a good deal of time getting familiar with your local boards dynamics and handles. This will help you to identify a trainwreck in the making before you step on the train!

I was a lurker for months before I got comfortable enough to start replying to posts... And I try to only reply to posts when I have something positive to add from my experience or viewpoint.. but that is not everyones personality or method.

And the MAIN thing that I think most people forget is not to take things personally... You posting to that thread probably had nothing to do with it being pulled. It was most likely pulled for the OP not following the rules...

Finally, like I said in the headline, we all screw up.. and if you do it royally, it is always a good thing to Man up and apologize. Have fun, contribute, and learn all you can.. That is why TER is here!

Hugs,
Serene

Every board has a different mod, and each mod interprets the rules, so what goes up on one board may come down on another. When you responded to the OP, you didn't know it was in violation of board policy so don't sweat it.
It's the OP who catches any heat.

Whenever a post is pulled due to a policy violation, all subsequent replies to that post are pulled as well. Then, the same explanation is attached to your response as was attached to the post of the person who violated the rules.

Hope that makes sense to you.
