I sure as heck don't want to offend a woman in any way, and can't imagine there is a polite way to ask a provider for a description of her face. But is there?

Describing a face is difficult and can lead to expectations that aren't met. But if you must ask, perhaps you ask if them if there's any one famous that people say they look like.  That would give you some sense.

I think there are a lot of polite ways to ask but all you will get are subjective answers.  If the face is that important to you I would suggest sticking with ladies who show theirs on their website. Another option of course is taking the word of what others have written but again, it is very subjective.
