I have been with both, agencies and indy ladies. I find that the agency typically is better for last minute liasions. However, the lady of choice may, in some instances, not be available that day. I will typically take a pass on that if my lady of choice is not available. Assuming you have chosen a particular lady, make sure she is the one that will be available and not let the agency dictate a potential suitable replacement.
Most of my ladies are indy. I will usually contact them a week in advance, go through screening (make sure this is done otherwise take a pass...if she doesn't want to screen you, I would be very concerned as to what I would be walking into!!). I have spent a significant amount of time doing my homework on the lady that I wish to see...and thus far have not had any disappointments (schedule changes, indifference, et al as you said in your post). Stay with the well reviewed ladies, and if possible, back channel with your fellow hobbyists to try and ensure that she is who you think she is.
If you spend the time to do your background checks on any lady you wish to see, you will increase your odds of having a wonderful time. Read the reviews carefully and make your choice...then enjoy!
I personally have an assistant and am independent. Thus....my emails are answered in no time flat and a date can be set rather quickly. Most of the timing really depends on the screening process tho. If someone uses provider references as their preferred method of screening- sometimes it can take days for them to get back to you- other times the providers respond in minutes. The fastest dates are always the ones who belong to a verification service because their references are already right there.
However, it's not likely that upscale companions will just be sitting around waiting for your call and be at your door in 30 minutes for you. Many of them need at least 1-2 hours notice to get ready, and put their real life on hold to meet you.
We can debate ad nauseum, Indies vs agencies. I will only see Indies. Make sure you only see well reviewed Indies. In the reviews if you see a history of the bs behavior you described in your post, than just move on. Remember the indie will screen you, and that takes time. You might want to join a screening site like p411, date check or rs 2000, which may speed up the screening process. I normally plan a d ay or two in advance so I'm not looking to see a lady in 30 minutes. Part of your problem is your desire to see a lady so quickly after your call. Many quality professional providers will not see you in 30 or 60 minutes.
The "better independent providers" are going to be in demand and have a number of regular clients, perhaps many. More likely than not, they are not even going to be able to return your email in an hour, let alone appear at your door. By the time they are finished scheduling their regulars, they may have little time left for new clients to begin with. You will have to book a week or more in advance for some ladies. The question becomes, are these ladies worth the wait, or can you be satisfied with whoever the agency sends? In my experience, some of these ladies are definitely worth waiting for, how ever long it takes.

Just to clarify... I wasn't expecting an indie at my door in 30-60 minutes, but I'm getting tired of indies taking 2-3 days to respond to simple emails, out-of-service phones, schedule changes, etc.
If I'm going to spend $$$$ for the company of a beautiful woman, I expect much faster response times and a little more professionalism. I think I'll stick with agencies for the near future.

I am Independent and I am very prompt on replying to appointment requests.If all screening info is provided in the initial email then I can usually confirm an appointment within 24 hrs.I always send a response email indicating I have received the request and will check references.Some of the time all of the required info is not provided so then I will have to send an email requesting more info which does slow down the process.With Indy's most of us screen so there is a small chance you can get an indy to your door in 30 minutes after your call the only way possible is if she does not screen.NO,this is not normal!!You are picking the wrong independent ladies!!!Most of us are about our business and will get back to you in a timely manner not two or three days later.Keep in mind things do come up the ladies you contacted might have been out of town,family issues,etc.Also if you belong to any verification sites would also speed up the process.
If you want to meet someone same day, best you go the agency route. The 2 -3 day wait before meeting is normal with indies, at least the ones that I know. They need that amount of time in order to do due diligence, and assure themselves that you are not LE, or someone that may harm them. Recognize that the high level indies are not usually desperate for business, and play the game according to their own rules and schedule.
First, when you call an indy for the first time there is verification, and then availability. Not all ladies work full-time, and those that do may not stack up the clients like flights coming into La Guardia. This is like the dumb American going into a nice restaurant in Italy and wanting to be in-and-out in 20 minutes. It just doesn't work that way.
When you call an agency (if it is the first time), if they have a lady at your door in 30-60 minutes there is no verification process and you are at risk of LE, rip-off, B&S, etc. If they have already screened you, then they still have a bevy of ladies to send you.
What you're asking is to get a full course dinner from Mortons at the drive though of McDonalds.

Agencies screen lightly if at all, indies are a lot more thorough. You may not think that's important...unless you wind up in the middle of a sting one day...
Now, over the years I have seen way more agency girls than indie but my two all time favs are both UTR low volume indies. There are positives and negatives about both options. For the most part the hoops that you go through with an indie only happen on the first visit so yeah, if you are a spur-of-the-moment kind of guy a good agency or two will probably always work better for you.
