I am a complete newb. I need to get screened before I can see the providers I want to. They all ask for work info. What is the minimum I need to provide and what do they do with it? What do they ask if anything?
Wouldn't it be suspicious if one ore more providers contacted my work inquiring about me?

Before you do that, I would check out her reviews. If she is not reviewed, then be careful about providing that information.
If she is reviewed, then read her reviews and see if the reviewers mention anything about screening. And don't be shy to PM the other reviewers about those details.
Typically providers just want to know who they are dealing with. If you are on LinkedIn and on a company website, they usually just want to make sure that you're a real person. And then the other part of the verification is to make sure that it's you. A smart provider will ask you for your work email, and then send you an email from an innocuous Yahoo or Gmail address with something very basic, like, "Hi, I just wanted to get back to you about the sofa you were asking about. Please reply at your earlier convenience, and I would be happy to give you more information."
The risk? That the girl has your information and uses it to blackmail you if things go wrong...like you writing a bad review, and her threatening to put your personal information on a national blacklist.
That's why I say you should do your research before you start giving out information like this. You wouldn't use your ATM card and put your PIN number in some random ATM sitting in the middle of nowhere, would you? A row of ATMs inside a Chase branch is probably pretty safe, but the one hanging outside some random store that sells fake T-shirts in Chinatown is probably more risky, because it could just be a ruse to get ATM card info and PIN numbers to duplicate.
