Does new mail show up on inbox for non VIPs?

I let my VIP lapse. I'll go back soon. Before I dropped it I contacted several others. If they emailed me would it show up on the mail page?

it would show the normal alert that you have new private message but

wouldn't show the contents or from whom

it will just say VIP only
