sorry to be so ignorant, but what exactly is back channel? Does it simply mean PM to other users or is there some deeper meaning like a pay-for board with an SSL connection and a more "liberal" flow of info?

It is not possible however to tell who is and who isn't, which is kind of a pain, but that's the way it is.

As others have pointed out (for the purpose of this board)  it is some form of private communications such as TER PM e-mail etc.

Here in Athens it means something entirely different.
