Mr. Info... or anyone else who knows...

I just joined TER a few weeks ago. When I joined, I was asked for, and provided, my email address.  So, I was wondering, if I wanted to find out the email addresses of folks that post here, would I be able to do that, here on the site?  Would your answer be different, if directed to a paid, or non-paid, subscriber?  Actually, one of the reasons I ask, is..  I posted on one of city boards, leaving my email address.  I got an email from the moderator of the board, saying that was not a good thing to do. The moderator chose not to put up my post.    Thanks.

If the other member is VIP (and not using an alias) you can send them a PM.  Just click on the envelope next to their name.  If they are using an alias, you will not see the envelope next to their name.

This link is from when Mr. Info made a new email address.

The info in our member profiles, including our email addresses, is NOT accessable to other members, VIP or not.

TER has a few uses for it, though.  When you post, you can check a box asking to be emailed when someone responds to your post.  Also, TER might send a reminder when a VIP membership is about to expire.  Things like that.

As 1selectmale said, VIPs can contact eachother via PM, but not everyone is a VIP.  If you absolutely have to post an email address, maybe you can try to be slick about it.  Put something like "You can contact me at USERNAME at YAHOO dot COM."  Actually, you probably want to be more creative than that.  Spammers have programs that crawl through the web searching for email address.

You can always try to PM someone.

People are allowed to post their email addresses
on TER.  Your post's content (not the fact that
it contained an email addres) was problably the
reason it was not posted.

I just mentioned that I had recently seen a lady that guys might be interested in, and said folks could email me.  The mnoderator told me that he/she did not want the board "cluttered with email addresses."

So, TER has no general posting policies?  Individual moderators can do whatever they want?

For example, a moderator of one board could permit email addresses to be posted, and permit reviews to be be posted, and permit cussing and really nasty flaming?  While another would not permit you to post at all, unless you were using the King's English, to the letter?

Kind of like a whole bunch of different boards that are really not connected to one another?  Interesting approach.

It is NOT wise to post your email address on ANY public board. If you want to contact someone, get a VIP and PM them. If you feel comfortable enough then provide email address off line.

In the long run will be much safer for you!
