But, if I'm on the road and have to use an ATM, 20's are fine as well.  I've never had a woman express a preference.

When I go to the bank to make a deposit I generally ask for a sum of cash back in hundred dollar bills.  I've been doing this for years and no teller has ever so much as raised an eyebrow. There are actually quite a few folks out there who, in addition to savings or retirement accounts, also keep a fair amount of cash on hand.  Asking for big bills at your bank is probably more common than you think it is...

I normally go to the bank and get 50 or 100 $ bills but do the ladies mind getting $500 or more in 20 dollar denomination. I am getting self conscious going to my local bank 2 or 3 times a month to get a load of 50's or 100's.  I know just getting paid is the important thing but I was just wondering.

and I've never had a complaint.

Over that, I go to the teller and get C notes.  If they ask I tell them I go to lots of antique and flea markets where dealers discount heavily for cash - which is true.

I don't worry about the bank.  The tellers have no idea what you are doing with the money.  At my bank, most of them know me by name, it's small credit union branch with only about 5 different tellers.  I go there every 2 works to get my rent money as well, and I get 50's for that also.

As far as the ladies are concerned, as long as the amt in the envelope is right, I don't think they really care a whole lot about the denominations.  Ladies, feel free to correct me if I'm not quite right on that.

no matter what $20, 50's and 100's.  My bank's ATM lets me withdrawn as much as $600, you might want to inquire what the atm limit is, at your bank, so you can bypass the tellers.  And don't feel self conscious about the bank teller, they have no idea what the intent of your cash withdrawal is for. Use mrfisher's reasons if anyone asks. Also try another branch of the bank if you fell so self conscious.

I had a guy pay me in a combination of 10, 20, 50 and 100s.  He said he squirrelled away hobby money here and there, pocketing the difference when shopping or paying for services, and held onto it until he had enough.  His wife was very involved in the finances and this was the only way he could get hobby money.

Conversely, I had a guy who owned a vending machine company.  He wanted to pay me in coins and singles so he would not have to go to the bank.  I thought he was pulling my leg, but he insisted he was serious and that he did a lot of cash business.  I informed him that I did not think it was a good idea, bringing 400 in singles and coins to my hotel as;  a) it would take forever to count, b) would be impossible for me to carry and c) would definitely draw attention when I was checking out.  We laughed anout it when I saw him some time later, and he paid in 100s.

At least he didn't try to pay you with cigarettes, candy bars and potato chips.

process is they will have expenses but to pay for lunch with a C note might be a bit much so I give them some $50 and $20's too.

But the first time my bank questions my withdrawals, i'm off to another one

If I am planning ahead I usually have 100's and 50's. If it is spur of the moment I go to the ATM and it is 20's.

More often than not, I will stop at an ATM the day of to get cash, and few if any outside of casino's and upscale malls dispense $20s only.  For a one or two hour rendezvous, I've found that's fine.  For longer engagements, better to go to the bank and get larger bills.  I also often feel uneasy in this day of direct deposits and automated payments about going to the bank too often to obtain larger bills.  I've never had any blowback from the ladies when using $20's, so it would seem that they have no issue with this either way.
