Is p411 worth it if I only plan on hobbying once or twice?
I am a newbie, thus I have no references. Common advice is to sign up with a verification site, and I see that p411 is highly recommended. However, I don't think I am going to hobby long term.
I found a provider here on TER - she has 30+ reviews, and everyone one of them says she is amazing. She posts ads regularly, has also posted on discussion boards, and has a well-organized website. She is also OK with newbs, as long as they provide personal information for verification.
It certainly seems that p411 is a wise investment if you hobby more often, but I just don't think I will.
Of course, I bet there were a lot of guys who said that, then ended up hobbying more than they expected.

you will have a better chance starting out if you have some kind of reference, and P411 is a good place to start. You need to read the self help center, it has lots of helpful info for you.

If you are sticking to well reviewed providers who have a solid reputation AND you are comfortable sharing personal information (full name, employment verification) then you are probably safe without P411
.....just do it.
I have had a TER ID since 2007. I just joined P411 this year. I was always nervous about sharing anything with anyone. I finally got to the point in my life that I was serious about it. I took the step to join P411 and have not regretted it.
I have seen a few providers from there since. I had the first (she knows who she is) see me based on only P411 without references, and everyone since has taken the OKAYS I have there as references, not requiring other information from me.
I wont see anyone now that isnt both on P411 and well reviewed here. There are just too many amazing providers to do otherwise. I travel often...usually twice a month, and this is perfect for the times I am looking for fun in a city I find myself in.
It is a small investment for what it provides....

1) Give the provider my personal info so that she can verify
2) Give p411 my personal info so they can verify, then arrange to meet with the provider through p411. The only problem is: since I am new with no references, she will likely want to verify my employment on her own, in addition to the p411 verification.
So, I know that p411 is a great service and a wise investment for those who hobby... but I don't think I will be a long term hobbyist. I just want to meet up with this provider once or twice, and then I will be done "sowing my oats."
