Obviously anyone providing a service appreciates a tip. In this area, what's appropriate?  Say you spend $300 for an hour with someone and you're very pleased?  For example, in a restaurant, you might tip 20%, or even more.  What's the expectation here?
Do most of the guys tip?

See my tipping post on the GD for DC. Tipping is a great way to 'Thank' someone. It becomes addictive to some girls IMO.

but they are not expected.

I like to bring a 50 or 100 dollar gift card in the hope that I will want to give something extra.

The best thing you can do is book another appointment.

I tip wait staff, valets and such who rely on tips to supplement an artificially low wage.

I don't typically tip my attorney, my dentist, or my providers, all of whom provide valuable services.  In short, if they set their own rate they should set it where they need it, but at 300 to 500 per hour I think they are making a living wage, LOL.

Yes, you can call me whatever you want, but bear in mind that I also NEVER haggle and I ALWAYS have the envelope right and pay upfront.

While tips are always appreciated, they honestly are not expected. This is not your typical service industry. Most ladies set their rates at a level that more than adequately meets their needs. Additional tips are not necessary to help us make a living.

Now, if a lady has truly gone the extra mile, perhaps a tip is appropriate to show your appreciation. Aside from that, the best tip you can give is to go back and see her again. Your smiling face is tip enough.

I agree w/ P. Fishman. I don't tip either, at the hourly rate that's charged, that enough! I'm not cheap either, don't haggle over price, pay right away, but their hourly rate is ENOUGH. I usually try the businessgirl who I see offering a discount to stimulate their business! I respect provider's and I don't have personal relationships w/ them either.

I don't expect a tip as an independent.

However, I would expect 20% if I worked for an agency.
The ladies make less than 50% at an agency.
Providers who work for an agency discuss tips.
This is a Fact!

If a hobbyist does not tip, or tips less than 15%, the girls will remember you.

Tips are always appreciated!

I don't tip, I bring gifts.  Search for tipping on the search function and you will find many threads on this subject. Do what you feel comfortable with.

I love bringing gifts, they alway love them.  Search my posts to find out more.
