Usually you have 2 choices.  Either provide a reference or provide your home and business phone number.

I'd MUCH rather have a provider call another provider to verify me, than have to give her my full name, home and business phone number.

All you have to do is is see one provider who doesn't require references (There are plenty of them out there).  Then use her a reference for your next one and start a chain.

Many SP ads specify that references are required.

How do you get references if just entering the hobby? What do they want, contact info for other SPs? Are agency SPs better in this regard?

Well, its not quite a chicken and egg proble.  Simply ask the provider.  She will usually have an alternate method of insuring her safety.  This may require that she have your work phone number and actually reach you there.

There are tons of girls who don't ask for anything. Amps are the best.References is bullshit. Ask her for her real name.
