From 1975 through 1997 (minus three 2-year interludes when I was in monogamous relationships) I had sex with over a hundred different women. I used a condom less than half the time. I have never had herpes.  Herpes is one of those things that you would have for life.

I had read about transmission rates online, and they are incredibly low (9 per 10,000 sex acts), which simply made no sense to me because a rate that low seems like it couldn't lead to 1 in 4 adults having genital herpes.

But it's statistically probable that some providers and some clients do have herpes. It's not like those who have been infected are ever going to come forth with that info.

Assume that some providers have seen clients with herpes, and some may be infected. There is no possible way to tell who they are or how many.
