Go with a tracfone

So I've been using my actual cellphone for my hobbying and realized that it's pretty dangerous. I have others that check my call/text history bill, so I think it'd be better to stay safe and get a hobby phone to talk to providers.

I have t-mobile and was wondering if I can get a separate prepaid SIM card that I can switch with my real SIM card without having to buy a new phone? How much do they usually cost and where can I get one?

buy a prepaid sim on ebay. although your phone IMEI number will still be tied to you. your best bet would probably be to buy both an unlocked phone and a prepaid sim or just go to your local electronics retailer and buy a tracfone. they dont require any personal information and its relatively cheap.

Tracfones are dirt cheap. You can register on the web. You can buy minutes when you want them. Most importantly, only you see your calllist. Coverage is as good as that of expensive carriers.

That's usually stored on the phone ad not the card. You can, however, delete the history (texts, numbers called and received, etc).

You'll actually save money and get less headaches. You can pick up the cheapest tracfone for between $10 (I've seen the cheap 'stick' ones on sale at Walgreens) and $20.00. Others are right with dirt cheap. Don't go through the hassle of swapping sim cards, etc. I don't think it's worth it.

+1 on a hobby phone - so many options for prepaid that it's kind of silly to not go out and buy a phone for your privacy.

Plus, it's a physical reminder, versus having to always change your SIM card which you may just one day forget since it's so small and inconspicuous

For the infrequent hobbyist

Go to Walmart and buy a tracfone for $8-10. They come preloaded with about 20 minutes of airtime...more than enough to book and confirm an appointment.

Get a Google Voice account linked to your hobby email account.

Link the prepaid phone to your Google Voice account. Then you can go through multiple tracfones in line with the pace of your hobbying schedule while maintaining the phone number for verification purposes.
