It takes time and patience (the first I had lots of, the second I had to learn). It's very common - for any new business owner (which you are one now) - to have to slog through 8 - 12 months of reputation-building and barely making it financially. Stay with it, though; it's well worth it once you really get going.
When you're a new independent provider does it take longer for you to get a client? Should you lower your prices or give a special to start building your rep? Or just sit & wait? I feel like I am doing everything right but because I don't have a review on here yet no one will hire me and I completely understand why everyone is very very selective and skeptical but I just feel like if I just got one client and good review... :[
I have seen some providers offer discounts for clients who provide reviews, but I would recommend just being patient. Keep advertising on local sites, update your pics (if needed), and just be patient.
First, get a website done with GREAT photos, if you haven't done so already.
Get a TER logo on the site.
Mix it up on your local board and post a link to your site when ever you do.
Offer specials to TER members and encourage them to write a review for you. Don't be shy, just ask. (Do not offer anything in exchange for the review, that's a no-no.)
In time you will have reviews and if you do your job well, you'll be successful.
When you get three reviews, you can participate on the PO Board and learn more on there.
For example, I have travels coming up and looked over reviews for two cities that I will visit. I only focused on ladies that met my rather restrictive set of criteria. I stopped after finding ten perfect choices in each city, I left some choices on the table, so to speak. You compete against providers that are legit and against the Backpage types that throw up awe inspiring but mostly false photos. You best choice, if you have not already done so, is to work for a highly rated agency. Focus on agencies locally that have 80%+ ratings for 5+ reviews in TER agency reviews. Select an incall agency, or limit your outcalls to better parts of your city. The agency work will provide you with steady bookings, assuming you are good at your work. The bookings will allow you to build a Rep that you can use to go back to Indy work. Avoid agencies that want an excessive cut of your hourly rate.
