From a provider, never; from civies, plenty.....

That tells me a lot right there.

I always seem to get really nervous with a provider gives me a bbbj, anyone know the downsides to this? and what are the odds of contracting something?

From borrowing my roomates water bead. The school nurse was disgusted as I had to go through my sex partners for the past 30 days. Ahhh. The 70's.

you can be sure they are not going to boast about it here.

It's shrouded in silence and there are both good and bad reasons for that. To gauge the odds, I personally look to statistics rather than anecdotal evidence, because there isn't much of the latter.

My advice: Accept that there's some degree of risk no matter how many precautions you take, and protect yourself the best you can.

paranoia can also be very infectious..there is no cure..

you stick to well-reviewed providers.  After all, for many of them, this is their livelihood, and they can ill afford to be passing out STD's.......  BTW, you are probably safer off with a provider than the hottie you might pick up in a bar....think about it.

knowing a lot of women who take enormous risks with their health, whether it's out of ignorance or greed or just lack of caring. I know some who think that spermicide kills all STD's (and this is no BP provider and no 18-year-old idiot). I can give you several other examples of misconceptions I've heard from experienced, reputable providers but I think that one is pretty indicative. Denial, ignorance, and a willingness to brush things aside to make an extra buck, score an extra 10, or listen to a stupid guy who nags and pleads and promises he's clean.

It's human nature...people always think nothing bad will happen to them, and make stupid choices. Or, boundaries just become worn away over time.

I'd also argue w/the fact that it would interrupt their livelihood...nobody can really make accusations on the boards about STD's, because it's considered hearsay. And, even with a recurring STD like herpes, a girl can take suppressive medicine or just take off during outbreaks (or just take her chances).

I'd feel safer with SOME civvies than SOME providers (and vice versa), but I'd take it on a case by case basis. I don't think we should be telling people that providers are any more or less likely to be informed or take precautions with their health.

That's the insight I've gained through my personal working relationships with many well-regarded providers, both independent and agency. So it might be different from yours, as you've had different experiences.

You make some very valid points. I think a lot of it is swept under the rug with little or no discussion on the boards because it can be hearsay and confessions simply don't happen.

The oft comparison between civies and providers does not always hold true. Most civies are not fucking 10 different guys per week, week after week.

One can play as safe as possible, but there are no guarantees on both sides, male or female, civie or provider.
