Many start working for agencies, and they begin to learn the ropes.  If they have the gumption, then they start on their own.

Those that don't would need a mentor.  Hopefully they find one or find TER and study up on the business with the Newbie Manual and just reading the boards faithfully.

Gal who just go out without any training are probably doomed to fail unless they are very quick learners and very talented.
