  I am a newbie, but not a first timer. I have not been busted and would like to keep it that way. So, I'd like to know what suggestions people have for participating in the hobby without involving the police. A little background info so you know what will be useful to know. I live in a smaller area so sites like p411 are not going to help because there is almost no one on there. So, I'm essentially limited to backpage. These are the current precautionary steps I take.

Don't see gals who want you to come to a cheap-o motel where the door faces a parking lot (Motel 6, e.g.)  These are favored by LE for making busts.  In fact, if she is willing, it is always safer for you to get the motel and have her come to you.  LE almost never gets involved with that kind of situation because of their well founded need to control the site.  The down side, of course, is that she may not be willing to come out and see you

Can I ask why you look at BP instead of other avenues, like here first?  
Where are you located?

Thanks for the advice. Is there anyway to get a hotel room without leaving a trail? It seems every hotel nowadays will need an ID and credit card. I may be paranoid from watching too many cop shows but better safe than sorry

I am in a smaller city in the Midwest. Though you can probably guess my whereabouts from my reviews . So there isn't much traffic on TER to my area. BP seems to have the only regular traffic as far as I can tell though I'm open to suggestions on other sites to review.  

If the lady doesn't have a screening form or instructions on how to book, starting off with something like, "Hi, how are you today? I'm (name) and I would love to spend time with you. What information do you need?" Maybe even add the date you'd like to see her if you know it. Show that you have manners by introducing yourself as opposed to just a "hey" or "are you available now?" like Marie mentioned.

But on the other hand, there's no reason to suspect that the hotel is going to turn you in just because you get a room.  

A polite email might go something like this:

Read her ad/website thoroughly. Many ladies will specify how they wish to be contacted and what info they need up front (as well as how much notice they need for a date).

As keystonekid mentioned, you can plan a trip to see someone special. Do you travel for business? Combine pleasure with business!

I'm in a very similar situation as you, in the northeast.  The nearest area that sees any well reviewed TER ladies is 2 hrs away, and then it's very infrequent.  

Your reviews only say other. They don't specify a city. So I'm still not sure what city you are in.

 I was never instructed on a proper opening call/text so that's why it's a bit short. This probably explains why I don't get contacted back sometimes. I didn't want to say anything that could be interpreted as an exchange for money, but am open to suggestions. What is a good way to initiate contact?

hobbyist has reviewed. If hobbyist H has reviewed provider P and liked her (say a 9-9) then the other hobbyist can look at H's reviews and see who else was reviewed with similar scores. He could also send a PM asking for recommendations but some guys are hesitant about giving recommendations to guys they don't know or have minimal board presence.

His providers' TER profiles or ads suggest either Madison, WI or Des Moines, IA.
