Is there a compiled dictionary of these basic shorthands; what specifically do these charaters mean?  TIA

this is what I use them for.

:-)   = I agree or that's funny.

:-(   = I disagree or that was just stupid.

:-@   = HOLY $h1t!  Oh NO he ditt enntt!!!

:-D   = That's funny as hell!!!

:-X   = Speak no evil(this time).

But I could be wrong.
