Think I have picked up herpes (type I), what next?

A week after my last session, my first ever "cold sore/fever blister" has appeared on the edge of my lip. Thankfully it hardly bothers me and is not noticeable. It seems to be going away. So I take it this is herpes, type I? Any advice/tips would be appreciated.

When in doubt check it out! You should always go to your primary or to a local clinic if you are uncomfortable with your primary and have them check you for this instead of simply wondering if it is or isn't something that could be contagious or not. Your health and the health of your partners is always at risk so please go get checked!

PS:  And don't have any contact with anyone until you've been diagnosed and the blister has healed.  There is a presciription medication called Valtrex that treats herpes and speeds recovery, although youi always will carry the virus and must remain alert to new outbreaks.  Sad to say, there is also evidence that the virus can be transmitted to a partner even when no sores are apparant.  Take care and don't share!

I am planning to get tested next week. But I don't think it is herpes, just a harmless canker sore. Canker sores are not contagious and I get them once a month.

Wait a minute.  Your very first post said you got this for the "very first time", then your last post said you "get them every month?"  Strange.  You'd better get checked out.  Mentally.

Just a followup, I got my test results and am negative for everything including Herpes. THe sore I had was a canker sore which are harmless and non contagious. THey always appear on the inside lining of the mouth, but this last sore appeared just at the edge of the lip ( but still on the inside lining). So that got me worried thinking it was herpes !
