I've set up tentative date (first timer here!) and talked to her once by phone, but  so far she has not asked for references or any info from me.  She has 8 solid reveiws, and half of those reviewers appear to be by WELL seasoned hobbyists.  I'll talk to her one more time before our rendevous, but if she doesn't ask for any info, should I cancel?

Does she know you are first timer? Did you initially make contact via email? Maybe she has just gotten a good vibe from you on the phone. If she is well reviewed by respected hobbyists, I would put more confidence in that than a lack of questions on her part.

of this hobby is by gut feeling.  She can probably tell by the tone of your voice that you are a good guy.  Plus, I'm sure you have given her some info (name, phone #, etc.) which she can use to verify you.  If you told her this was your first time, then she knows there are no references.  Enjoy!

Thanks for the help guys.  I feel pretty comfortable with this too, but it helped to hear other opinions.  Wish me luck!
