I've read some of the info posted and it sounds like the risk from BBBJ is significant.  So I'm curious why so many providers offer it.  Is the risk over-stated or are quite a few providers and guys passing STDs back and forth?  I really like the BBBJ but am wondering if I should stick to covered?

I'd stick with covered. If a provider is willing to give a bbbj then she's willing to risk her health and safety. Who's to say that she hasen't ran across a client that has some type of std and dosen't know it or just dosen't have visable symptoms? These are all things I ask myself, Is it worth the risk? Not at all! Try to stick with ultra thin covers, gives it more feeling.

the risk chart attached will indicate that quite a few infections may be transmitted by bbbj

however

what you really want to know is the incidence of transmission, or the probability of infection

opinions vary widely, much of the "breadth" coming from anti-sex sites lol

the anecdotal evidence tends to support very very low incidence of transmission.

as with all things you should gather information and  make an informed decision based on your risk tolerance versus level of reward

While I've received BBBJ before, I have now decided to go with covered.

It is too easy to be afraid of everything.
Minimize your risk AFTER reading actual statistics.

An interesting point.

Pretend, for the sake of argument, that ClientA genital herpes but no obvious open sores. ClientA would STILL be contagious though. (There is some debate on this, but most authorities say that without open sores one is still contagious.)

So, ClientA gets a BBBJ from ProviderX. Now, she might have that virus in her mouth.

She sees you later that day and gives you a nice big DFK. Now you've got it in your mouth. Then you give her some nice DATY.

Will it spread? Maybe, maybe not. COULD it spread? Certainly.

in the manner you posited LOL.

refer to the chart below

or feel free to google other sources, just be sure you're not looking at an anti-sex right wing Christian or Catholic source lol

This hobby is not for the timid, squeamish or faint of heart.

If you're really afraid of *kissing*, let alone bbbj (I've been getting em for over 40 years without incident lol) then you need to take up stamp collecting!

Kissing is not generally considered a likely transmission vector for STDs; though it is fairly well established as a vector for mono, colds, the flu, etc.

I'm certainly not saying that folks shouldn't kiss; only pointing out that, at least theoretically, it is far from risk-free.

In fact, just breathing the same air as another person (malls, airplanes, etc.) can spread illness.

I don't expect folks to all jump into a bubble because of germ phobias. (*chuckle*)

After all, a person could get a paper cut while stamp collecting, and thereby become infected with MRSA and die.

You can't eliminate risk and still live a useful life. But you can manage risk.

For you, the risks of transmission of disease are on the acceptable side of the spectrum for BBBJ. Looking at not just what can be spread, but the odds of a particular disease being spread, indicate it is not a particularly dangerous activity. (Compared, say, to BBFS.)

For me, the risks are right on the borderline; perhaps because I know a guy who got chlamydia that way. Because I know someone who got a disease -- the risks become more real than academic. I'm also aware that such germs, in a high promiscuity environment (such as the hobby) tend to be more virulent than otherwise identical germs contracted in a low promiscuity environment.

We all have our levels of risk tolerance based upon not just statistics, but what we've seen or what has happened to us.

One thing that, admittedly, slightly skews my perception of matters is that I've been playing with germs since I was 10 years old; and am thus more acutely aware of them than most.

:-)

so I am not as concerned about the possibility of bringing something unpleasant home to an SO

Bottom line: regardless of the choices we make, *anyone* participating in this sport should be tested frequently.

Nobody is going to take responsibility for our health but us....
