I requested to have a few posts removed and it went smoothly.
Just link the thread and reason for why you want it removed.
It should be taken care of within 24-72 hours.

There is no instant way of removing a post or thread, you have to use the Contact Us and request it to be removed.

In case you don't get the PM, or for others wondering the same thing:

Method 1: If the post is still pretty "fresh" (within 4 hours) there should be an edit button. (not available if you posted with an alias ). Select "edit" and then delete the body of the text, and put "delete" in the subject line, then hit "post." The post will go back up as a blank post.

Method 2: If the post is past the edit stage, or you posted as an alias then use the "report this post" feature. Just ask them to delete the post. Since it is your own post you are reporting, they will usually delete it.

If you use method 1, you still should report the post and ask for it to be deleted, or the blank post that says "delete" might stay up forever.

Ask for post to be removed, and I think the whole thread will be removed, if your post started the thread.
