Many of the providers in my area are not TER reviewed but do direct prospective clients to Adult Friend Finder. Is this a trustworthy option, or should I avoid these providers?

The host of her website is likely directing you to AFF not her. See her if you are interested and can verify her in some way other than TER reviews but avoid AFF. If you only find her on AFF move on to someone else.

I'd stay away from it.

use an untraceable number, etc.

AFF & AM both use fake profiles to lure prospects in but nothing ever materializes.  I would not expect much & be sure to use hobby emails & phones.  
TER is not the number one source in some markets...  and names of competitors can't be mentioned on TER...

I signed up mainly to check one "provider" who supplied a link to her AFF page in her ad...linky no worky, so I'm moving on...

...posing as sugarbabies (granted, there's a blurry line between hooking and sugarbabying). If you don't have much experience with TOFTT/unverified providers and/or much tolerance for risk, then AVOID. Otherwise, just be cautious and feel it out.

...a nice woman from AFF/ALT once in Hong Kong.  She was actually rather terrific, but rare, I think.
