My spelling sucks ... I type with two fingers .. and I make only $ 25,000 a year ... yet, I've been in the hobby for 20+ years and some posters and providers actually enjoy reading my words of wit.... I must be doing something right .... let's hear it for us poor uneducated bastards .....

What is up with some of the reviews lately? I don't expect the wirting level of a journalist or published prose author, and I know I'm no Tolstoy, but a lot of the reviews I have read lately cross the line into utter incomprehensibility. I just read three in a row where I'm not even sure what the hell happened on the date despite there being two or more paragraphs. Seriously, the authors come across as illiterate.

Could some of these be fake reviews? Or do the fakey ones tend to be, shall we say, over produced?

To each his own when it comes to reviews ...... some give the basics, some write novels, and others write to feed their own egos .......just be honest is all we ask ......

Many reviews are poorly written from a literary perspective, but if you are looking for refined novelists here you are looking in the wrong place.  Most of us are dirty old men out for a charge and we are not particularly concerned about features like paragraph formation, sentence structure or spelling.  Given that many of use are lucky to wake up each morning or survive our encounters, what do you expect from us?

the fact that to be a real hobbyist you have to be making six figures, I'm dumbfounded by the PATHETIC writing skills of many posters. Typos are one thing, but how can people making six figures be illiterate?   Really SAD!!!!!!!

That was my thinking as well. You can't be some illiterate schlub in this hobby, although I suppose there could be some guys out there pouring a major chunk of their incomes in to this. Who knows...

Like I said in my original post, I'm not looking for exceprts from romance novels. But, seriously, some reviews I can't make heads or tails of what's going on. Either that or it's one long sentence. At the very least write the rough draft in notepad and do a single revision before cutting and pasting.

And punctuation is not an endangered species, folks. ;-) Feel free to use it.

Here's a whole bunch to get you started:
.............,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,--------,,,,,,,,,,,,,.............'''''''''''''''''''''''::::::::;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Cut and paste as needed. =D

I am surprised to see that you think one must be making a six fugure income to enjoy this hobby; there are many of us that are a far cry from making that much money. It has always been speculated by many that some may be spending more than is healthy for their budget, or some of us get creative with our finances to do it, but we are active participants regardless.

I do have to agree with the literacy issue though. I know my spelling and grammar may not be perfect, but I'm doing the better than a few even with my poor high school education.

It makes me wild that some of the reviews on TER sound as if they were written by 8th graders.

I would like reviews that are well written, provide some detail, rather than a bunch of acronyms with intelligence.  They don't have to be long but should be lucid and interesting.

I guess all these "upscale gentlemen" I'm always reading about on provider web sites are either lottery winners or trust fund babies that were high school drop-outs.  Have some self respect and learn the language.  Every time I see the word "clothes" spelled "cloths", I feel like going postal.

I am a white collar professional and write tons of emails and presentations.  I think when I am on TER I am just having fun so I am not taking the time to check spelling, make sure my grammar is correct and I have all the correct punctuation.  When I look at reviews or posts I just look at the content and not worry.  I do understand what your saying but most non professional emails that I send are barely comprehensible in retrospect.
