Register on Date check or P411. Registering on those sites are not illegal and even if ( extremly unlikely) someone checks your computer( make sure it is not your work comp), it will not matter.
Once you have references on Date check or P411, it will be with you for life(with active membership).
Both the above sites are extremly sensitive to confidentiality and you should feel ok.
Having a succesful encounter needs hard work and planning, and if you are going to Hobby infrequently, why take chances on "feeling" one and another. The reviews should allay your fears and for many providers, registration on DC or P411 will allay theirs.
Trust me most if not all Newbie hobbyists have gone through your fears initally before taking the plunge.
I am a newbie (never hobbied at all ever) and am taking a trip for a professional meeting to Atlanta soon. Because of the work I do, I am highly highly concerned about giving personal information. I will prob. definitely not use an agency (no future data on computers to be seized many moons from now), yet I understand safety of the workers.
Why has no one on the board mentioned the option of meeting with a girl in the lounge of the hotel a hobbyist is staying (5-star in my case) and let us feel one another out to check on things. I suspect most workers have a high degree of ability to feel out people. Plus, considering my line of work, I think a worker could tell very easily if I were bluffing or being honest, as many are familiar with my trade.
My hobbying would be seldom (meetings where I travel 1-2xj per year) so my building up a reference list is highly unlikely. I would really like to give it a try and better this than hanging out at a bar for 2-3 hours and hope for the best.
often do that, but you are gonna pay for their time. If you want off the clock meeting time, it ain't gonna happen. Just make the appt, go see her, and have a good time. If you are that apprehensive about meeting a provider w/o an off the clock meeting before, find another hobby.
Yes you are right that would be my plan (on the clock). I hear what you're saying, but knowing who a newbie is would be no guarantee the he wasn't a Ted Bundy, right? I hear you though.

And, keep in mind that P411 is located in Canada so it's less likely anyone in this country can access your info, at least if they're LE. Besides, once they verify you, that info is disposed of (they claim). Does that mean you'll be perfectly protected? In this age of Wikeleaks, the answer obviously is no. But if you're going to worry about it to that degree you need to find another hobby. PS: The poster who said Ted Bundy was charming is absolutely right. No provider in her right mind would use a meet-and-greet (whether on the clock or not) as a substitute for proper screening.
You all are very kind for your advice. I'll have to think about all that for a while (the verify thing). I really would have to find a way to protect my privacy, just exactly like I don't expect to get a provider's real name, address, etc (nor would I want it). I fully understand the need to be safe...really. But my conscious is clear on whatever would be required to protect my privacy, b/c I am a -0- level threat to anyone. (but they don't know that ahead of time, I know
On the clock time is a no biggie for me. As a newbie it'd prob. help my ease into the notion anyway. No worries there.
