I did a quick search on here but did not see anything on the subject so forgive me if it's been covered. I've been out of the hobbie a little while and would like to get a seperate phone. I think I can get something quick and easy but I have questions and concerns about keeping it anynomous. I've had a billing plan my whole life so pre-paid phone are new to me. The Best Buy rep told me thier Verizon phones will require some form of subscrition within 6 months of activation. So here are a few questions.
*Can't I just get a cheapie from Wal-Mart and buy some minutes without filling out personal information?
*If not, can I give bogus info? I'm paying cash for the minutes at checkout.
*How would this effect verification? Would providers be suspect of numbers that can't be traced to a person? (I would gladly provide my actual phone # for verification but I would ask that they recognize the new number when making the the actual calls.)
*Is there an easier way?

Any info from fellow hobbiest and providers would be great however I'm not VIP so pm's will not work. If you have info that needs to stay discreet, I can give an e-mail address. Thanks for the help.

1. yes, you can get a WalMart cheapie or from any store that sells those throwaway phones.
2.  I have seen it written in posts that totally bogus information was given when activating the phone, so I guess you can do it.
3.  This would not affect verification, since you would be providing a work number for the provider to use, not your personal cell.  She will want to be assured that you do work there.

Hope that helps, and like the previous poster said, hobby is not spelled hobbie.....

just got one at wally world

ATT phone 11.88
gophone card   25.00

you can activate on the phone or over the internet...
the phone is small so I did it at www.att.com/gophone
when it got to the part to enter personal info it only "requires" that you enter an email address.
I entered a bogus email address....it activated...
gave me my new number etc....
I then followed the directions that came with the phone to add my gophone card to add minutes....

Pretty simple and anon

19.95 for a decent flip phone (which I like since I switch out my personal flip phone in the belt carrier).  Then 19.95 for 3 months service...  I've never run out of minutes...  Trac rolls them over if you renew before the expiration.  If you let it expire, you "might" lose your hobby number.  Ladies do often (in my experience) know who is calling by your hobby number.
If you can afford to play, you can afford this.

Dude, bro . . . in the immortal words of Vanilla Ice . . .

. . . Yo V.I.P.  ! ( LOL )

You gotta get VIP status, even if you pay for it with your Wife's credit card, it's that good.
VIP is less than the price of one bad date, and it will probably save you from multiple bad dates.  Also, by reading the juicy details sections of reviews, which you need VIP to do, you can know exactly what to expect on your date.  Also VIP can help you pick out the right lady for you.

Let's be careful out there, and happy hobbying !

PS:
You can buy a trac phone at wallymart for straight cash.

At the exact same Wallymart, you can buy minutes and airtime, for straight cash.

If you don't want to use a computer to activate your phone, and you don't have an internet cafe handy, you can activate your tracphone at a payphone. (I chose the payphone at gas station at one of the busiest intersections in my somewhat small town. I had to put 8 quarters in the payphone, but I got them back at the end of the call ! ! ! )

Once your phone is activated, you can buy additional minutes and airtime at Wallymart and anywhere else tracphone products are sold, for straight cash, and then load them directly onto your phone.

I have had my trac phone about six months now, and I am pretty happy with it.

Peace Out ! Word to ya Mutha !
