I recently decided to venture into this "hobby".  I have tried to book with 2 very well reviewed providers but both wanted references I don't have.  Any advice on how to proceed, a guys gotta start somewhere, right?

Ask them what else they would take as alternate methods of screening.  Perhaps your real name and work information?

And ask the girls upfront if you can use them as a reference in the future, assuming the session goes well and your references check out.

There is the self help center under the life ring on the top right hand corner of this forum. It is full of FAQs. Personally I have found P411 very helpful.

I met with a well-reviewed provider as my first encounter.
She made an exception because she could tell I was a nice guy.
I was just honest with her and told her that I am new to this hobby and all that.
I met with her for lunch and she verified me by checking my IDs and getting to know me more.

So, truthfully, I did hobby briefly more than 5 years ago.  I hesitate to ask any of the ladies for a reference now, although I would love to see them again.  
I would like to go through P411 or DateCheck but I am now retired.  Does anyone have experience how these services deal with verifying a retiree?
