...but I am trying to get a VIP membership. I have tried not one but two gift debit cards. Both are "declined by bank" though the amts on the cards are well above the purchase price. I have registered them both and neither is going through.
So I assume that I am doing some thing wrong. One the purchase link options here on TER has a blank to fill out for "name on card". Since it is a gift card there is no name. I put the name under which I registered the card. I bought both about 5-6 hours ago and assume the ability to use is essentially instant, yet no luck even now. I know any small difference in what I enter and what is "registered" on the card would likely trigger a denial. But I can't figure it out. There aren't any vanilla cards that work from what I recall. TER has brought back the ability to purchase VIP with a money order.

But WTF? We can send a man to the moon but there are no vanilla CC available for overseas purchases? So then I assume the cc pmt options here are rarely used then, since I assume most (though I know not all) users here are state side.

...single. My credit card is my business alone. Occasionally I am contacted by my CC company asking if the charge legit. I have to think WTF it's been the same now for years and it's such a small amount why are you asking again.

Not everyone here is that PC. I too feel perfectly comfortable using that word. Some of us have been using it for decades and aren't going to stop simply on account of the PC police.

the fact that you're using a gift debit card tells me you're trying to stay anonymous. aside from sending in money order bit coin beats gift cards, since there's less of the hassle you're experiencing
and also since there are less fees involved.
cash is thought to be anonymous, so is bitcoin but the two are "pseudononymous" so is cash. since there's always a source origin somewhere, etc...
there are ways for the truly dedicated to track cash movement using serial numbers,etc and there are ways to track money orders via serial numbers, similarly there are ways for the truly dedicated to track bitcoins but you'd have to be committing a serious crime to prompt such level of forensic investigation. bitcoin by design is more or less anonymous as cash.
a hobby cc. Works great for TER and p411. It has only a $250 limit.
Reloadable cards-the ones you pay cash for, not the gift debit... American Express has a card called Serve, RUSHCARD has one out that's visa, vanilla one visa... They all need to be purchased by cash only & TER membership Takes them... Just make sure to register the card/zip code ... Hope this helps!! Good luck
I was all over purchasing one of these today, but registering seemed to involve personal info and a seeming required accurate address. (Not going to lie, I was going to use a local waffle house.)

I've purchased/renewed P411 twice now. Each time I've tried to use the Vanilla card with the online form, and I get the same message -- rejected by bank. Then I start up a customer service chat, give them the numbers, they type it in manually, and, bob's your uncle, it works. Perhaps TER can also do the manual thing?
