get a reference from a provider when I have never seen one. I mean damn, I am only 23 and I have never really had the courage to get into this and now that I finally do I find that it is practically impossible to set up an appointment with anybody because I have no references. I work for private families and so I cannot get a screening agency to verify me and when I ask providers to just give my employers a call (which, with a tiny bit of acting on the provider's part, would verify my employment readily) they say that they won't call people in my personal life.
I do understand that safety is the number one rule around here and that taking in new people is not a risk that providers are required to take but that does not stop it from being extremely frustrating. The hardest part about all this is that I live in Minnesota and as you might know there is a big hullaballoo concering the hobby around here and so providers are even less interested in taking extra risks.
1. Find a provider who doesn't screen well. This is dangerous and not recommended for anyone.
2. Use a verification service such as 411 or Date Check. Do a search on this board for verification service and you will get all the info you need.
3. Use an agency for the first couple of times before seeing an independent. The agency will normally do a screening.
4. When you email the provider, just explain your situation, tell her you will be happy to show her a recent pay stub and or any additional info, but be cool and let her know if she isn't comfortable, you understand.
Lastly, also working against you will be your age. most independents don't like to see guys your age.
I had this problem when I started. I payed for a membership to p411 ($69 a year) so I could see some girls at an agency in Greensboro. P411 is pretty good to work with and they will do all they can for you. Before that I had seen a few independents that did not screen very well. Most of them I only saw once or twice and I did not ask them if they would supply a reference for me. Whenever you get to that point,I suggest you ask them. Any good provider will be happy to. Finally I saw a great, well established independent provider and she told me she would be happy to reference me. When I first saw her I provided her with all the info I had-my p411 user id, my job, an independent from out of town that i have kept in touch with, and anything else I could think of that I thought might me helpful. I suggest you do this with a well reviewed provider. I am new at this and I have found that TER is the best resource that I have found yet. If the provider does not have good reviews, dont bother with her. If she has many good ones, you know what you are getting. TER has never failed me. Have fun and be safe!
employment verification. Basically calling you to make sure you work there. Or join Date-Check or Preferred 411. Whats great about those is that you will get screen once, by the company and a provider can recommend or recommend you to other providers. But good luck on your journey.
Thanks for the responses folks... Right now I am emailing back and forth with a nice lady who has great reviews and she has said that she would be comfortable if we did lunch first or something like that and I am keeping my fingers crossed hoping that she won't change her mind or get cold feet... I really want this to happen
