I am just getting started as my previous post stated.  I did everything that I was supposed to do and then it happened!  Not wanting to be a "clock watcher" but when a person has gone 15-20 past their time how do you handle that?  Also, if they booked for 1 hour and it gets good and they want a "discount" to stay longer...what is the appropriate response.  I did not want to say what I wanted to. However, from my point of view they will never get another appointment with me.

When they are running over you can simply say "did you want to take a shower before you got on your way?" or just be blunt, "were running over did you want to extend?"

As to the second question: "my 2 hour rate is XX. if you would like to extend our time that's what it will be"

be direct, clear but polite, it helps with misunderstandings if you are.

what your rates are going to be for 90 minutes, 2 hours, and so on. If you want to offer some extended time at a reduced rate, you really need to let the gentleman know before his time is up. If he's stayed longer already, and you've done nothing to encourage him to leave, not that he should need any encouragement, he may just think that "a little extra time" is okay with you. As much as you are entitled to be compensated for your time, handling it after the fact could get a little tricky. Best to learn a bit of time management on the front end.

Perhaps some of the ladies could chime in with some suggestions on how they tactfully let the guys know that their time is nearing its end.

If you want to give them  discount and let them stay longer, go for it. 15-20 minutes past time is ridiculous, they know what time they got there and you shouldnt have to be the one to bring it up. Tell them you have somewhere to be.

is an art.  A recent thread discussed hidden clocks, music cues, other ways to kep track.  A few minutes should be no big deal...  but you should endeavor to wrap things up on schedule...  If he wants to extend, then you should be ready with the fee.

I use my blackberry to help me with time management…

I play smooth jazz via a commercial-free radio station on my blackberry. I set my blackberry to stop the music at one hour. If the meeting is for only one hour, I politely excuse myself to restart the music (given the meeting is up, I have no intentions of actually restarting the music unless he agrees to adjust the fee…hehe). Once I get up, I say something along the lines of “Oh, I wish we could spend more time together. Would you like to take a shower before you go?” If I truly have the time and would like to do so, I will say, "Would you like me to join you?” (I am assertive, yet always polite and gentle).

If he says he would like to stay longer, I politely ask him if he has any questions regarding his adjusted fee. This reminds him to get up and add more money to the envelope before we continue to play. Also, this allows him the opportunity to ask me any questions he might have about my adjusted rate. If he does not want to compensate me for my time, he will typically excuse himself at this time by saying he has to get back to work, family, etc.

If I allow the time to go over without reminding him to adjust the fee, I will not ask the gentleman for my rate after the fact. That is not fair to him and completely misleading. Get in the habit of offering great customer service with clear boundaries, if you do not already do so.

I would never negotiate my rates and doing so in the heat of the moment would just be tacky. What a way to kill the mood! LOL. If I ever lower my rates it is for a pre-book deal, etc. and is solely initiated by me. I think you should get it the habit of not negotiating your rates…EVER. If he attempted to negotiate my rates, I would simply state what the rate is for my time.

If the meeting is for more than one hour, I simply excuse myself from his arms to restart the music when it stops at the one hour mark. I have never had a gentleman complain about my restarting the music a few times during a multi-hour booking. I am sure he is having fun watching me walk naked across the room each time to restart the music!

This system works for me.

Consider offering a 90-minute session if you do not already do so. It works!

Another thing I do for time management is set my alarm clock for 5 minutes after the hour. So, if the music stopping has not already gotten us to part each other’s sweet lips, my alarm clock will! I set my alarm clock for the courtesy of all. Many of my clients have to get back to their worlds. I have no shame in helping them do so by setting my alarm. And of course I offer the opportunity to extend our time together, if I indeed have the time.

Let's face it, there will always be some who want to take advantage of the situation...  The way to prevent that is to have thought about it in advance & have already decided how you'll handle it.
