Advice for Hobby Phone use needed!

Hey!

I just purchased my Hobby phone over the weekend. This is really exciting for me I must say. I am getting a real sense of freedom.

Are there any unspoken rules I should know about the use of it (obviously, keep it away from SO). Anything else? Should I erase call logs everyday? Or trash it after 3 months and get a new one? Text or never text? Store ATF or do not store numbers? Etc, etc, etc.

Anything you recommend will be greatly appreciated.

As a side note, is there any advice for the actual phone call? It seems like all phone calls should be sweet and to the point and that we shouldn't speak for more than 2 times if I understand "2 Call System" correctly.

Thank you!

to a provider, but obviously they should be more or less business related and not just chats.  (Unless she says otherwise, anyways.)

One issue to mention on a hobby phone, or any other electronic communication is no discussion of sexual practices and/or money.

Save that for when you are face to face and have handed over the envelope.

Password protect the phone with a good pin number and keep it in a secure location. I like to keep mine locked in my car glove box under some stuff. My story is that a co-worker left it when we went to lunch...

I generally keep mine clear of call logs and texts... I currently have a few numbers stored, but I am moving all my contacts to a draft email for an online hobby webmail account (that I don't use to contact providers). I can easily access that  from my regular smartphone (I do not have the account installed on my phone and I keep all the privacy (login info) cleared.

I never take it home. It stays at my office. The only time it does go home it's powered OFF and locked under my motorcycle seat.

All the names are stored as guys names. Tina is tim, Chrystal is Chris, etc. I do this so that If it EVER falls in the wrong hands, I can say it's not mine and it at least makes sense (once this ungodly EXPENSIVE divorce is final, I won't care!)

I set mine to automatically delete calls/messages after 10 of each. It's sorta self cleaning that way. I'd rather have just a handful of "are you here?" than 100's of "how many roses for 60 hugs"

Prepaid and only pay cash for re-fills. don't use your credit card to purchase the phone or minutes. It's better to have a charge for $20 at a gas station show up on your bill than it is for a cell phone provider.  Also a reverse phone lookup service can ID you through your number if you pay by credit card.  Mine is registered to a complete alias.

I'm  newb, so I text until i'm actually on the way, but everyone is different. Everytime I call if feel like Tom Cruise in Risky Business.

is the lady gives you a general location (Hollywood and Vine) or a hotel name (The Ritz).  You call or text her from the general area and she either gives you the address or apt. number if you are at Hollywood and Vine or if you are at the hotel, she will give you her room number.  Texting works best in a hotel lobby since it is way more descrete than saying "Hey Babe, I'm in the lobby. Are you ready for a romp between the sheets?"  The wrong ears might overhear what you are saying.

I remember getting my phone, I knew it was a commitment to the hobby.  I always leave it at the office, and I always leave it off.  Except for one time I left it on, and buried on my desk.  A co-worker called me on my cell to tell me that my desk was ringing.  Someone suggested password protecting, which seems like a good idea.  If my SO ever finds it though, she won't have to see the numbers being called on it.  She will know, they are not that stupid.

I always clear the call log after each use.  It means I must access the number afresh each time but if found, it'll leave no tracks.  Wife recently found a TracFone in the yard after a contractor had left.  One of his workers had dropped it.  A clean phone should not be too big a deal.  "I found it, no one to return it to, threw in in the glove box for emergencies."

Do NOT hang around a hotel parking lot drawing attention of LE patrols or hotel security.  I often arrive in advance to be sure of traffic...  then withdraw to the coffee shop down the block.  Often I call from coffee lot, or immediately upon returning.  I'm not in a city, but calling from the lobby might be the only way in a city, but damn be discreet!

I keep my phone in my home shop but deeply buried and shut off.  I only use it for hobby so incoming calls are unlikely.  The biggest issue is charging where it must be out...  but my newest Motorola TracFone hardly ever needs charging for the intermittant use.

I bought the new TF because I'd changed my main phone.  The old one would not fit.  When I play, I switch the phones in my belt carrier.

I have all my research & contacts backed up on line bith here & on a private email not linked to my main account & different PW.  I don't see any reason to toss the phone & many ladies use your phone to ID you.

If the was a risk of discovery, I'd not hesitate to put a cheap phone under a tire...  anyrate the data could always be retrieved online.

You need a whole new mindset.  This is a secret.  You take this information with you to the grave.  You do not tell anyone...  not your best friend, your brother, your buddy.  NO one.  Do not leave tracks.

Do not access adult sites from work computers or networks.  Not even on your own laptop.

Do not use a CC anywhere you would not normally be.  Do not use EZ Pass anywhere you should not be.

I guess that's enough to start you off.

This is awesome. I feel like this post needs its own thread. This is great advice. Thank you.

One other thing I do that I haven't seen mentioned is....I remove the battery from my hobby phone each time after I finish using it.  I keep my hobby phone buried in the big center console of my Tahoe.  When I take the battery out, I put it in another very secure but easily accessible place for me.  I figure, without the battery, no regular person will be able to see what may be on it.  Of course I do erase all my text messages and phone calls every once in a while, but, without the battery, it takes significant pressure off.
