Often I’m asked how a lady can do this type of work, how she can set up a date with a man sight unseen and how she copes with the unknown. I cannot speak for everyone in this industry but I can tell you that for me there what is important isn’t really unknown. I’ve spoken to someone already and what’s under the surface matters far more to me, it’s far more telling about a person than the outward appearance.

I was watching a movie the other day and it had the most beautiful ocean scenes, lots of clear blue waters, high waves with beautiful white crests. I would not be able to watch this for the duration of the movie, as wonderful as it was the scene would become repetitive after a few minutes as it lacked a certain complexity. Fortunately this particular documentary was about the ecosystem that lied below the surface of the water and the audience was treated to even more beautiful scenes of the plants and animals that lived below the surface. I was mesmerized by the life that existed in this world so foreign to me, and I barely noticed the time drifting by. This world was complex in its beauty, elegance, sadness and pain and it felt so real.

I may be able to appreciate the beauty that was on the surface but it would not last, it would not draw me in. There has to be more and when I find something that can captivate my interest I can enjoy what that person has to offer.
