Hello from a Canuck!
I am venturing to NYC for the first time ever (yes I know I'm late to the party) and while I have most of my social activities plan out...restaurant! I love food!
Any recommendations for brunch (especially in midtown/lower east side) and for dinner (can be outside of midtown/lower east) would be greatly appreciated. I love French, a good steak, italian, thai in particular.
Also-any good joints that you can find around the city for a quick bite/grab something that are know to be good?

If you want to get splurgey in midtown Cafe Boulud and Le Bernadin are both tough to beat on both a culinary and design scale.
The Modern (Midtown) is one of my favorites. The dining room is formal and looks out on to the sculpture garden of the MoMa (modern art museum), the bar room is very chic, but without the white table cloths. Both are fantastic. Good thai can be tough, but my current favorite is Qi in Williamsburg. Don't miss the kama sutra dolls in the bathroom

For chic, upscale with beautiful interior design try Scarpetta (355 W 14th St) For more of a buzzing nightlife vibe and coastal italian flavors go to Santina in the meatpacking (820 Washington St)
