I know that he's not the Pedro of old, but he still can be a solid pitcher. Just think about what his numbers would be like if he didn't have to face the Yankees.
In addition to only being able to give you about 100 pitches per start, Pedro now takes longer to get loose in Spring and Fall weather. Pedro was tremendous in July and August. In the Spring and now in September, Pedro gets hit early in games until he gets completely loose. He looses 2-3 mph off his fast ball until he gets loose. He can't spend more time warming up before games because he only has about 100 pitches per start in him.
This is not like Roger Clemens, who left Boston a fat man and turned his career around by getting back into shape. Believe me, Pedro is a 6 innings pitcher with the ego of an Ace! At least when the Sox were dumb enough to sign Mike Torrez, he gave them innings. Is George willing to pay 12-15 million for a 6 innings pitcher? I hope so. The Sox can take the money saved and spend it on Carl Pavano.
That is why us Red Sox fans are going to be forced to rub your faces in it when the Sox bomb the Yanks in the ALCS. Red Sox fans are always courteous and civil toward their Yankee brethren, but what do they get in return. Abused, that is what Sox fans get in return. But that ends this year and it will be the Yankee fans who will be sitting through a long, cold northeast winter wondering "what if?"
