I contacted an indy with just a couple of reviews here that were pretty good.  We set up a time and place to meet but she didn't ask for any references and was not very "chatty" in the email.  Just like one sentence answers.

Am I reading into this too much or would this send up red flags?

communicates by email is often a reflection of her overall demeanor and friendliness or lack thereof. I would also be concerned about her not asking for any references or other verifiable info. My first impression of this provider is not favorable.

about the value of speaking on the phone and it certainly should be used in ADDITION to emails. With that being said, the email is very often the first form of contact and as they say you only get the chance to make one first impression. If the provider doesn't have the time, respect, or inclination to communicate to me in a sincere, caring and interesting manner then I will find someone else who does.

it is a liittle unusual for someone to schedule you without speaking to you on the phone first if that's what she did. but, if she talked to you and you both were able to get a feel for each other.. i don't think it should raise any red flags.

You should talk on the phone at least once
But remember, the providers are the ones who seem to be getting targeted by LE
She may just being cautious by responding with little info

In this day of what seems like increased LE activity, especially where CL is concerned, I would be a little leery.  And if your antenna went up with the curt responses, listen to your gut.

If your asking legitimate questions that are not putting her in the line of fire, she may tell you to just refer to her webpage because she is busy and just does not have the time to answer all questions posed via email but if she confirm an appointment via vague at best email where you potentially did ask questions she thought were out of line, Why would she confirm the appointment in the first place?  Would this not make for a very uncomfortable meeting where she is spending the majority of your paid time "FEELING YOU OUT," I think you should walk in the opposite direction, always go with your first instinct, after all if she was not through enough to put effort into your meeting or as miki said feel you out over the phone who know what lies in wait when you walk in the door?
