I'm trying to plan a visit to a burlesque show in Manhattan some weeknight in the next two weeks or so. But having never been to one I'm absolutely clueless. Any suggestions?

favoriite burlesque I ever saw was a "Doctor Who" show, in Chicago.  
Very clever, for the nerdy among us!

The Wasabassco shows are by far the best I've ever seen, and I used to attend quite a few when I was a groupie with the burlesque circuit a few years ago. Not only are they the most talented, sexy, warm ladies out there, the event is always hosted in cool spaces, and the ambiance is always raunchy, hilarious, welcoming and sensual. The City Winery and Bell House events are large, high-energy shows with lots of performers, go-go dancers, great music and lots of sideshow talent. The Bathtub Gin events are much lower-key, intimate...perfect for a quieter romantic date over a well-mixed gin cocktail. And getting to dress up in a three piece suit and other retro pieces is always fun! Highly highly recommended!

three piece suits are not retro, at least not in my world.  Hurmph! That will earn you a hell of a spanking.
