Well said Houndog:"It should be a true reflection of personal experience"
Yes, what Houndog said was very valid and my point exactly: what is posted on TER "should be a true reflection of personal experience." Unfortunately, there's a saying about the Internet: "You can be whoever you say you are on the Internet." 14 year old sexpots turn out to be FBI agents, etc., etc.
There should be a simple rule: Anyone who posts under an alias with no reviews should be viewed as a bystander. I'm interested in the views based on experience of people like Houndog with his 59 reviews or Military, however illogical, because they've been there. The wanker wannabe's--SHUT UP. You don't scare me, but clearly others have been embarrassed off, others who HAVE had actual experience. So, No-review-one-post-anonymous-posters-wanker-wannabe's: Act as if you've been invited to a cocktail party for the Yankees and Red Sox players. Circle around, listen to the conversation, perhaps jump in with a statistic on home runs hit in 1948, but otherwise, SHUT UP. There are real players in the room.
I applaud Houndog's post a few threads down, and his ability to put, in few words and without infantile mudslinging, his finger on the pulse of this board.
Unfortunately, some part of TER, or some part of anything at all, will always be, as he says "filled with meaningless crap". And he also writes that it's too bad when some people use this platform to, incredibly enough, display rather than hide their personality deficiencies and character shortcomings. Again you are correct, but I have to admit that I find some of the meaningless crap by certain emotional midgets quite entertaining.
Now perhaps you are thinking "who is this clown Joe, he has never written a review, what is his contribution".
Let me just address this issue: As a paying customer to this forum, I think it is my choice whether I write reviews or not. Perhaps Houndog would agree that anyone who judges a member's credibility by the number of reviews he or she has written, would fall into that "personality deficiency" category.
I think this board would be better served if only paying members were allowed to post and if all members were unmoderated rather than some.
The meaningless crap will still be there, but it's everyone's choice whether to eat it or not. Having said that, in my opinion, the idea of a "TER Summit Chat" is a piece of noble but meaningless crap as it serves no purpose. Having said that, someone pls post a transcript of the chat, because other than Reno 911 there probably wont be anything as entertaining on TV tonight.
Regards, JK
TER if everyone was like you and didn't post reviews. NO REVIEWS=NO TER. The guys that write the reviews are the backbone of this board. Shame on you for being LAZY or indifferent. If you're paying, but not contributing reviews, you are one step above a parasite. I understand you aren't OBLIGATED to post reviews, but I repeat NO REVIEWS= THE DEMISE OF TER.
for myself what type of person I think you are. Is that a simple enough proposition? The poster is right, people should not have to post reviews if they do not want to.
indicated that he is not OBLIGATED to post reviews, but if everyone was like him and just sucked off information provided by OTHERS, the board would cease to exist. BTW, why are you always so argumentative?
reputation. I don't need you for "legitimacy" or judgement.
umm smelly...whats the opposite of "above you"?
I contribute to TER for one simple reason, I want to see the reviews of an untested provider BEFORE I go there... That is, I want to know what I am getting.... I realize that YMMV aplies - however, there is a consistency in the write ups and I do read them.... I visited a provider with fairly good numbers - but my experience - while not a total loss, was certainly less than I expected. I went back - read ALL the available reviews and discovered that my experience was not unique... I modified my score to reflect the "true experience." The provider was upset - however, maybe that helped her to give a better experience to the next person? Don't know but at least the advice - both for hobbiests and the providers is there. That is why TER is good - the reviews.... without them... there is NO TER - and While I do not post on every engagement - I do on ones that are exceptionally good - or less than par. expect the same.
So.... I guess the take home is - keep up the posts... they are the backbone of this service - If some only wish to pay to see, that is ok as their $$ helps fund the service costs....
and that is ok too.
IMHO, there is a fundamental flaw in the idea that a paid membership should carry more weight. While it makes sense for any business that is trying to encourage you to pay for a menbership to give you access to more features in order to entice you to buy a membership, in order for the business to maintain its integrity, a paid membership should not entitle you to a louder voice.
There used to be a provider who regularly posted on Boston. Periodically, she would cause trouble enough to be temporily moderated. She always argued that, since she paid for a VIP membership, she should not be moderated. I politely explained that a paid membership does not entitle you to be an a$$hole. ![]()
Off topic a bit...I always wonder why so many assume that just because someone posts often or has written many reviews, this automatically entitles them to a higher level of respect. As far as I'm concerned, respect is earned. Just because you post often does not automatically mean that your opinion should carry more weight than the lurker who occasionally joins in.

Unfortunately it looks like your attempt to purchase VIP membership has failed due to your card being declined. Good news is that we have several other payment options that you could try.
We thank you for your purchase!
Membership should be activated shortly. You'll receive notification!
