I'm having a hard time reconciling the demand for midtown incalls with my love of a lot of the really cute LES hotels. They're way more spacious, lots of lovely bathrooms, in more appealing areas, better restaurants... everything a girl like me is into. Most of the midtown rooms are shoeboxes...is there a compromise? Do you really prefer location to an overall way better atmosphere?

As a New Yorker I have to say I don't care greatly about where someone is if it is reasonably close to the subway. Though living uptown the last few years, the LES is slightly more of a pain to get to. I wouldn't be surprised if guys who commute into Manhattan have more of an aversion to areas too far outside of midtown just because of convenience (assuming most people work closer to Midtown)) and proximity to exits from the island. And I wouldn't be surprised if some guys are still skittish about the LES. I'm still surprised at how many scaredy cats there are when it comes to certain parts of NYC.  

.. the only time I go there is for Katz's, Russ and Daughters and to buy fabric. Escorts. No. Way out of the way. BTW, your statement about LES hotels being way more spacious, lovely bathrooms etc should be replaced by "way cheaper". However I do agree with better restaurants - Katz's and Russ and Daughters!

Its all good.  I personally work in the Village so LES and/or the West Village are pretty much a nice walk in either direction for me.  Midtown requires a subway.  Problem is I don't usually see providers on the days I work usually.  On those days I drive into the Village, park near work and subway it or walk, so same difference.  My preference, as always, is Western Suffolk on LI on a Friday morning :

But for someone who doesn't live or work in the area, it's inconvenient. Midtown has multiple subway and bus lines... cabs are everywhere... LES doesn't have the same ease of access. It's pretty much impossible for a dude who works in Midtown or FiDi to manage a quick lunch hour tryst in LES.

I love the LES hotels they have pools and space however, I have a hard time getting people there...

I don't understand why Midtown is so popular when there are other areas that are near a subway.
LES to me has more space and 20 mins away from Midtown which isn't that far. I think LES is wonderful.  Manhattan is big but it seems like the majority goes to Midtown for play which results in a provider overload in Midtown.  

Supply/demand.   All the demand are from guys who work in midtown like me.   I can tell you i probably wont see you if you dont have an incall in midtown.

I've hosted on the LES a few times, and the demographic is usually a bit different. If most the men you see are commuters then the LES is an inconvenience, but otherwise NYC locals and out of state visitors are usually more flexible on incall location.

East Houston St. is under major reconstruction, and driving in that area is a major nightmare during prime-time.  Not to mention parking.  I was there a few weeks ago, and even with a half hour head start, was a half hour late, thanks to the gridlock.  I'm avoiding going down there to hobby again anytime soon.  At least by car or taxi...mass transit via subway is probably a better option, but that doesn't help me.

I can only speak for me. I come in from NJ. It's an 8 minutes train ride or a 25 minute bus trip from my house. Which gets me to Penn Station or Port Authority. I know how to get thru Midtown Uptown or anywhere with street numbers. If it's below 14th street I am lost. Tell me to get to Orchard and Rivington my head explodes. Not knowing the streets names I have to take a cab as it's not walking distance from either location which takes an additional half hour to get to which is longer than my commute into the city and it's an added cost for me. Yes I agree the hotel's might be more flashy in Soho and all the other neighborhoods but I'm a dude and I could care less what the hotel looks like. As long as the room has a bed and I can grab a slice of pizza after the session that's all I care about.

I could care less about the atmosphere of the hotel.  Once I meet the lady, I don't even notice the room any more.  

Everywhere in Manhattan is relatively easy to get to, but we don't think along those lines.  We just look at what's "close".  And I put close in quotes, because all the drivers from out of town laugh.  All of Manhattan is close to them.

regarding my choice of hotel. It also probably matters less to you, more to me and my clients because I'm generally spending a bit more time together in the room. A small minority of my appointments are an hour. Most are 3-4, with a 2, 2.5 hrs spent in room so comfort is important.  

I did notice the construction but traffic is worse in midtown by far! Noted though, thanks.

... the Lower East Side have been pretty good. But that's just  from my two whole experiences having location in NYC proper vs pretty much just going to/in central Long Island (also tried Long Island City once) for all of my other visits. From so many other discussions about where to locate in NYC it's just best to go where the demand is most. Not that you should aim for serving all the masses but if there's not much interest in Lower East Side especially while touring probably just best not to do it.  

I am fond of the East Village and the LES, and they are regular stops for me for food and drink (and I am usually the oldest person in the place by a few decades).  I have had a number of encounters in LES hotels, particularly with ladies who, like the OP, enjoy more interesting boutique hotels than mid-town provides.  One of my favorite memories was spending an afternoon in the Thompson Hotel, which has an outdoor pool.  The lady, now sadly retired, and I  spent the afternoon back and forth between the pool and the room.  It was like a little vacation in the heart of NY.  Must do it again before the weather changes.

Houston St. construction was a nightmare several weeks ago...maybe it's gotten better since then?

Have car, will travel.  Easy to maneuver in Midtown, despite the traffic.  Downtown, not so easy.  The hotels there are not more flashy...the good ones are comparable.  But it does take experience to learn your way around there...a good nav system helps, but it pales in comparison to actually knowing.  

I am always interested in this topic because for over a year now, when I work in NYC, it is in SoHo. And I am usually interested in appointments during  the typical commuter's hours - either lunch time or 5 pm-ish. When I'm done in NYC, I get a train from Grand Central. (I'm a native New Yorker -- I've lived all over this town and points north so I know the subway and neighborhoods very well)

When I was in search of a work studio 2.5 yrs ago, I flipped a coin. Whether to be on the  East, West or LES. Then I asked a few New York based & traveling clients what were their thoughts via where I should set up shop? Everyone shared their opinion about travel time , parking, etc.. I even did a poll. LOL..in the end, my thoughts were that I needed to be in the middle of it all. Especially accessible to mass transit.  After 4 months of searching, I found just the right location....and how did I know I was in the right location? Well, whenever my clients visited they would say "Great Location, I work within walking distance or "Oh, I took the N/R/A/1 train. Real convenient"  

"Way cheaper" is off base. I often book in either LES, Soho or Chelsea just because I prefer the hotels and area.
I always spend between 250 (low season / getting lucky) and $700 for a room. Most often around $500.
