On the surface, this looks like a better way to deal with human trafficking.  Why do I worry, then, that it will also be turned against our segment of the game?

the traffic some of us hobbyists have to deal with when driving into NYC to visit a provider...

in the country where condom is  and evidence  of prostitution .. OF COURSE !!!!  
 you concerns  has strong base and intuition not  playing games with you ...
not all functions of  government  entities are openly communicated  to public  in states..
 freedom is breaching  ... no one in own mind ever will see abortions and condoms  as subjects to be controlled  by government .. China .. of course ..but it is other story .. so I think it is not paranoia but very possible outcome .

become very handy  for officials of NYC  and as matter of the fact I think all social system  structure in the US already has elements which can be adjusted soo easy to match those using by nazi in pre nazi times ..

I just here and there and here .. not  going deep in this nonsense .. but I can not help myself but I making strong strong parallel  between  facts  from the book and now  days   way of things in states .   but  do we realize that  there  it was in pre fascism , pre nazi environment .... but we here now in this century and in states about to experience all that ? the same way? almost  same ways ?? it is what they want too when  they not let people have a condom in pocket ..

. you will see your own country  in different view  after  reading ... a bit it opens eyes .. and how prostitution  will be handled   is only one  segment  of the  all  march to  fascism  which in my opinion is on its way  here ..

I hope you're just joking and not really suggesting there's no human trafficking in NY.  My point is the people going after the real traffickers think even high-end TER girls are trafficked.  These new courts could easily get turned on all of us.

I would think there are enough actual trafficking rings to go after to keep them busy.  Not all TER girls are high end and it's obvious that quite a few have at the least, pimps. Hopefully, it will only make it a more safe environment for those of us that are independent and of age.

you have a point but I think it is directed towards the ones that are being brought from other countries to get to the United States and have to end up being working girls...
I am certain that laws could always be twisted and turned on us. I hope that it doesn't get used against us but like in the past with Gulianni, who took all the street girls out and most of the brothels, all it takes is one over zealous politician...

And most of the legislation that is supposed to protect us does exactly the opposite. Human trafficking certainly exists in New York, but the way to curtail it is to decriminalize all sex work, not to make us have to crawl even deeper into the shadows!  

I agree with your main point. Most of us here play conscientiously. I hope they heed the spirit of the law, and not the letter.

Just worth mentioning that there actually was a high(er)-end TER girl involved in trafficking, and TER itself was used as an advertising medium in that case. Yes, it's rare in this realm, but our little corner of the hobby is by no means free of society's more sordid elements.

A TER rep can be used to predict level of performance. That's pretty much it. Why it's so often used to lend a person or entity an aura or believability or integrity, I have no idea. TER gold star status !== carte blanche.
