We have some hobbyists here who, without a doubt, will put up a shill post for certain providers every time they advertise. So mostly we all cringe when we see these shill posts.

But here are my questions. Does the lady shilled for appreciate the shill post under her ad post every time she posts an ad?  What do the hobbyists think about the provider when they see the shill post for a lady time after time?

An example from our favorite shill of all:

With all due respect, I accept your right to challenge me but I beg to differ! You are mistaken here!

Mr. Mason, this is not a shill post! Please check the TER definition. It is not initiated by me. BT has never solicited any post or review from me on her behalf nor has she offered me even a minute discount from her standard rate structure. etc., etc., etc. I have nothing to gain from my post here except to share information about a provider I found to be particularly satisfying! In all honesty, BT has never acknowledged any of my posts.

I am sharing with my brother hobbyists the joy this gal has provided for me on a consistent basis for the better part of 4 plus years!

Mr. Mason, once again with all due and well deserved respect, please allow me to note that when I posted today about others; you had no cause to complain. Do you perhaps only see a "shill" issue when it involves someone you have not met or reviewed? Indeed interesting!

In addition please allow me to add that you are factually incorrect in stating that I post to every one of BT's post. As recently as last week, I did NOT post to her post. Others did! Please do verify this here... http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion_boards/viewmsg.asp?BoardID=2&SortBy=DateCreated%20desc&SearchType=1&Author=briannat&DayFrom=30&DayTo=0&MessageID=183876&frmSearch=1#183876

You have the wonderful choice of not clicking on any post of mine. Others may feel the same way. Yet there are several that have PM'd me to thank me for the "heads up" (Shall I state her "heads up" is outstanding or am I rubbing salt into the issue?).

I am not the first person to post this way about a provider that has offered excellent service nor am I going to be the last. This issue has been hotly debated many times on this board.  They are for those interested in seeing them; those not so inclined are free skip over them!

I harbor no harm nor malice to anyone on these boards who takes the time to applaud a fine provider. It is those that gain some incentive or advantage that are guilty of "shilling"! I am not one of them here nor will I ever knowingly act to induce others for my own gain. This board is for gentlemen, not "slugs"!

Sincerely,
M'laid

When it comes to providers, I put more emphasis on the reviews and feedback of trusted hobbyists.  Love sick puppy dogs who write harlequin novels as posts have no bearing on my decision making.

So we NYers can have a discussion about something and a Chi town guest makes it a personal attack. Wow! One need only go to the Chicago board to see "WTC" posting very much as a fellow "Love sick puppy dog(s) who write(s) harlequin novels"! Dude, don't throw stones; you may be breaking your own windows. You for one have written in similar fashion about two particular providers! Please be consistent!

The post by mislaid prompted my post but he is only an example of many other shills.  While he or they may not be prompted to make the shill post, it seems to happen every time the provider the object of his desire posts an ad.  Now, as a general matter, it would seem to me that most of us who view the NY board do so on a regular basis and while some visiting hobbyists to New York may view the board on occassion we are a pretty static community. So how many times is it necessary for a shill to post under a provider's ad if she posts on a regular basis?

And what I have not heard yet is what the provider thinks about this shill posting his dribble under every one of her ads.

Thank you Deranged But Cool.  You made my point and again raised the questions I raised. This is not about mislaid (although he is the classic example as we all know and his shilling is not limited to only one provider).  So let's see some responses to the more general questions I asked in my original post.

I do respect your opinion on this. I never thought that someone who is stating his total satisfaction with an outstanding provider is a shill. My posts are solely intended to share information about an excellent provider in a timely fashion; when she posts. Please allow me to repeat...Not one of my posts or reviews have ever granted me a "freebie", price reduction or any other benefit! Nor am I delusional to think that the gal will like me any more or less depending on whether I post about or do a slanted review for her or for any other reason.  This is a business after all! I know of another critic on this thread that has had a real relationship with a provider and his posts were no less "problematic" than mine, yet he atttacked me here in a most entertaining fashion. I have no real relationship here. I pay full steerage! All my posts are simply my enthusiastic applause for a job very well done. I feel that what I know about an awesome gal should be shared among the other hobbyists when that gal posts. Nothing more! Frankly, I have seen far worse from others. I don't see anything in the rules that bar what I honestly intended here. Trust me, the gal I wrote about here does not appreciate me any more or less whether I review or post about her. She has never asked for same nor has she thanked me for posting! My intentions were solely geared toward letting others know how good she is. If these posts inspire true angst, I will consider curbing my comments. In reviewing others' far more annoying posts, I wonder why I am being singled out here?
Best...

I believe that what PerryMason is expressing is not so much you singing a lady's praises - hell, we all do that from time to time - but that the platitudes you post can at times be somewhat over the top.

I also hope the questions posed doesn't get lost in any back and forth about this, namely:
What are the ladies reactions to this?
And do hobbyists find this sort of thing helpful, or a turnoff?

These are legitimate questions, and I for one would be interested in how others view this.

Again, I hope you'll take this in the spirit intended.

Regards,
DBC

No one, not me any way, is suggesting ill motives.  But this is primarily a review forum and you have posted your reviews so your opinion is known.  Anyone on this board interested in a provider will check out her reviews and maybe even send a PM to the reviewers if they want more information.

My posts are nothing compared to the cyber diarrhea you inflict on a consistent basis.  You know it to be true, but you simply ignore it.  Seriously, your posts come off as someone getting laid for the first time.  Plus, it is the frequency and the over-the-top nature of your posts that is making you look ridiculous.  If you were to simply write "Great pics" or something simple and sweet, you would be looked at differently.  Of course, you'll say that you don't care...but deep down you do care.

I knew what mislaid would say about Brianna (who I love dearly as one of my favorite providers and one of the best in the business (my shill for her)) and I took that post as an opportunity to ask for some feedback.

Mr. Mason, your post here differs remarkably from your post opening this thread. Here you bare your soul and perhaps the underlying reason for your post.

In a very respectful yet candid manner, kindly allow me to ask if you truly feel that Brianna is someone you "love dearly as one of my favorite providers and one of the best in the business (my shill for her))", then why have you NEVER reviewed her? Is she any less worthy than all of those? If you can do 106 reviews, why not do the 107th for her?
Lets be honest! We now both agree that she earns every bit of praise.
Do you see my point? :)

Best Wishes!

While I avoid the term myself, I think it's pretty clear that it wasn't intended to imply that a poster is getting freebie's as a result.

I also don't think anyone has a problem with someone singing a lady's praises, as I mentioned previously, we're all guilty of doing some of that.

The problem is when it turns into over the top, flowery prose - or worse yet, verse - it's not merely complimentary, and it's not simply sharing information.

Now, I happen to agree with you that if you don't like what someone posts, then don't read it, and just move on. That's the ideal. Unfortunately, sometimes, like a bad accident, it can be difficult to just look the other way.

Giving a provider your endorsement is fine. Posting that she's your ATF is fine. Saying she's hot is fine. All of that is informative. It's the *unecessary* hackneyed superlatives that get some folks annoyed.

But you are right, at least theoretically, we could and probably should just look the other way.

mr mason...the thing is a shill is someone who is prompted...mislaid is never prompted. He is enthusiastic yes but not led.
He's a fan of BT, and a few others....and since Bri has some hot new pics he commented....hell I have been known to comment myself. Some of the ladies on the board have some great pictures and more then one I have sampled myself in the bedroom and can attest to their, lets say...prowess.
Do the threads bother some people ? Probably. But thats probably also true of my food threads, and some movies threads.
The NY board sets itself apart as a board full of people who actively participate in all threads including the ones that start as ads sometimes.
::shrug::
whatever.

I have posted a few times under girls names, always ladies I've seen and enjoyed being with.  CSJ, Chloe, and others.  I posted under Kitten's today, the first time in a long time I've seen an ad post from her, so it was a chance to remind her I think she's terrific.  In general, these posts are my way of saying hi, reminding them I love the way they do what they do and generally encouraging some sexy banter with them.  It's called flirting.  If anyone is bothered by the amount of such posts, I don't really care.  I kind of wonder why the OP and others get so riled up about it.  Some of the back-and-forth is funny, some isn't.  It's all innocent fun.  Most of it is just the headline with an (eom), so how much of anyone's valuable time is being wasted here?
Also, you know by now the handles of the posters whose "shilling" (it's not) you claim not to like.  So, just like with the TV, just STFU and change the channel.  Nobody makes you read the posts.  In fact, it's the gals who should be pissed because the more such posts there are, the quicker their ad drops to the next page and they are limited re how many ads they can post per week.
I fail to see why all this energy needs to be expended on this subject, especially since you aren't going to change anyone's mind.  Peace and LOL!

the part of my post about pushing ads down the page.  If someone posts anything under the OP it takes up space.  The more people who do it create a lengthening thread.  The longer the thread, the more space it takes up, pushing other threads further down the page and, ultimately, onto page 2 where fewer people go.  Is that clearer now?  I am sorry if I wasn't clear but actually think I was and you were unable to understand it.  So much for who put his foot in his mouth.

For example (and I'm not saying this was the case with Cara specifically), if she posts how pretty a particular girl looks in a photo and also happens to be doing doubles with her, so in effect, is trying to drum up more business by calling more attention to the original ad, then yes, it's a shill plain and simple. Let's stop acting all innocent here.

Not to curry favor with certain providers in some sort of quid pro quo arrangement (or the hopes of establishing such a relationship), or to purposely exaggerate or lie about one's encounters with a provider. Ultimately, this does no one any good.

Right, but how do you judge when there's a quid pro quo or someone's lying? Same thing with the reviews themselves. It's impossible to know.  Personally, I just think some people get irritated by these personal posts and by the people who make them often...
When they make them often, it immediately raises a red flag and their credibility comes into question. Also, if you follow individual reviewers, it becomes pretty clear very quickly. The "honest" reviews generally include both the good and the bad in their reviews. They will also be more critical, in general, sometimes giving a girl a bad review when warranted. The shills, on the other hand...

I spoke with these guys about the ladies they post under and their enthusiasm is honest. Will every guy feel that way? Probably not. Regardless of what we would like to think it's always ymmv.
